SMART TECHNOLOGY IN CONSTRUCTION

SMART TECHNOLOGY
Why utilizing smart technologies can help make construction sites safer?
Recently, there has been a lot of attention dedicated to the use of technology in the
workplace. Smart technology, such drones, augmented reality, and wearable technology,
would be essential for enhancing health and safety on the construction site as well as
driving business development and creativity.
"They can let you know about an issue before an event happens, make sure that there is
communication during an emergency, find dangerous exposures that need professional
assistance, and more."

Since the introduction of hard helmets and safety eyewear, construction technology has
advanced. The integration of big data, tech innovation, and the construction industry today
has made the industry safer for employees.
1. Exoskeleton
Construction workers are 16% more likely than employees in all other
industries to have a work-related musculoskeletal condition, according
to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Power assist and unpowered are the two different varieties.
Construction workers can move larger materials and continue working
longer thanks to power assist, which uses sensors and motors.
2. Virtual Reality
Construction worker trainees are able to engage with the
environment since it employs software to imitate the
construction site. Safety problems in the field are already
occurring at a reduced rate.
Although the initial cost of VR training is high, the cost will
decrease with time. Training using actual equipment will be far
more expensive than in an augmented reality or virtual reality
environment.

3. Wearables
Falls, struck-bys, electrocution, and being stuck in/between are
important reasons of worry in the construction business, and the
"Fatal Four" are eliminated by construction wearables. This
sophisticated personal protection equipment (PPE) features an airbag
in case of a fall, a poisonous air particle detector, and a missing
person finder.
4. Site Sensors
Smart sensors are installed all throughout a construction site, and they
are always monitoring the atmosphere to make sure it is safe. They
gather data and analyze it to generate predictions, which helps to keep
employees safe, lower expenses, and foresee maintenance
requirements.
5. Drones
At construction sites, drones are used to survey the environment, search
for dangers, and keep an eye on personnel. Drones can replace the
necessity for high-risk, elevated surface pre-project start inspections to
be carried out by business workers or the safety team.
Using aerial photographs, mapping, and marketing films, drone use has
the added benefit of allowing project progress to be monitored.

Organizations must consequently implement effective, comprehensive health, safety, and

environmental procedures. The goal of these training programs is to provide site managers
and employees the skills they need to implement rules and procedures that are meant to
save lives. Smart technology will improve on-site health and safety training by giving
employees the ability to prevent accidents by simulating real workplaces and risks. As a
result, there will be fewer accidents on the job site since personnel will be more aware of
potentially hazardous conditions.
