An amazing Ecosystem: The desert.

More tan one-third of the land on the earth is desert. A desert is land where there is not more tan 22
cm of rain per year. Deserts can have very extreme temperatures. For example, it can be 50° C
during the day and then 10° C at night!
There is very little water in a desert, but there is a lot of life. There are many different species of
plants that live in the desert. Cactus is the most well-known desert plant. Some cactuses grow as tall
as 10 m. There are also many animals in the desert , such as insects, reptiles, amphibians,
mammals…and even fish! The strangest desert creature is called the the lungfish. It lives in the
desert in Africa. It can breathe air and it lives for many months buried in mud several meters below
the desert surface!
