• A navy or sea force is the branch of a nation's armed forces principally
designated for naval and amphibious warfare; namely, lake-borne,
riverine, littoral, or ocean-borne combat operations and related
functions.

Who and when was the Indian navy found by
• The Indian navy was founded by Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosle emperor
of the Maratha kingdom on 5th September 1612.Chhatrapati Shivaji is
also known as the father and founder of the Indian navy.

History of the Indian navy
• The Indian Navy was named the East India Company's Marine which
was founded in 1934 to protect the British merchant shipping in the
region. When India became a republic in 1950, the Royal Indian Navy
as it had been named since 1612 was renamed to Indian Navy.
