SOCCER

FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUE
▪ Fundamental technique of soccer :

RULES
▪ Soccer consists of 11 players ( 10 field players and 1 goalie/keepper)
▪ It played 2 x 45 minutes,
▪ The game begins with a kick from a stationary position in the center of the field
▪ The opposing team must set up outside of a 10 yard radius from the ball until it is played.
▪ The ball must be kicked forward into the opponent’s half
▪ The ball is not considered “in play” until it has traveled its own circumference
▪ The player taking the kick off must not touch the ball again until another player makes contact
with it.
▪ After a goal is scored, play is restarted in the same way by the team that did not score the goal.
▪ At the half, teams change ends and the opposite team kicks off.
TERMINOLOGY
▪ Free kick : when a player is kicking a direct or in direct kick, opposing players must remain
at least ten yards from the ball until it is in play. Direct from which a goal can be scored
directly againts the offending team. Indirect from which a goal cannot be scored until it has
been touched by another player.
▪ Penalty kick : a penalty kick is a direct free kick awarded to one team when a player on the
opposing team commits a major foul within the penalty area.
❖ the opposing goalkeeper must stand on his own goal line between the goal posts and not
move his feet until the ball is kicked.
❖ the palyer taking the kick must kick the ball forward and may not play the ball a second
time.
▪ Throw in : the throw-in is the means of putting the ball in play after it has gone over the side
line. The throw-in is to be taken from the spot where the ball crossed the sideline. The thrower
is to use both hands in delivering the ball from a position behind and over the head with both
feet on the ground.
▪ Corner kick : when a member of defending team causes the ball to go over the goal line,
the ball is to be put back into play by means of a corner kick.
▪ Kick-off : a kick from a stationary position in the center of the field to begins the match, at
the time of the kick-off, every player is to be within his own half of the field and every player
on the opposing team must remain a distance of at least 10 yards from the ball.
▪ Off-sides : when a ball is to passed to aplayer and he is on his own half of the field, he must
have at least one opposing player nearer to the goal than he is. Off-side is judged at the
moment one player passes the ball to another and not at the time the second player receives the
ball. After an off-sides occurs, an indirect kick is awarded to the opposing team.
▪ Goal box – the area where the goalie can pick up the ball with his/her hands. He/she is the only
one allowed to touch the ball with her hands.
▪ Dangerous Kick= When a foot of a player extends over waist high. The result is an indirect
kick.
▪ Trap= When a person stops the progress of a moving ball with his/her body
▪ Scoring= One point is awarded for each goal scored.
▪ hands ball : hand ball A violation of the rules in soccer in which a player other than the goalie
inside the penalty area carries, strikes, or propels the ball with the hand or arm. A hand ball is
usually called when the hand or arm is away from the body and touches the ball.
▪ counter attack : Counterattack game is a tactical maneuver to score the goal as soon as the
player acquires the ball. This requires a good set of attack actions.
▪ free kick : a kick from a stationary position in the center of the field to begins the match,
at the time of the kick-off, every player is to be within his own half of the field and every
player on the opposing team must remain a distance of at least 10 yards from the ball.
BENEFITS
▪ The game of soccer develops all aspects of physical fitness including cardiovascular
endurance, muscular endurance and strength, flexibility, body composition and agility.
▪ It is a game that can be played by all people of all ages, on any flat surface.

FOULS AND MISCONDUCT


▪ A foul is a violation of the rules, when deliberate, is penalized by a direct free kick, indirect
free kick, or a penalty kick
▪ Fouls : kicking, tripping, pushing, charging, striking, holding or handball (a handball will be
called when the ball comes into contact with a player’s extended arm)
▪ The goal keeper cannot carry the ball more than 4 steps without bouncing it on the ground.
