The triune God is a working God. In many verses of the Bible, God is called
a designer, builder, judge, counselor, warrior, king, shepherd, etc. All of
these descriptions show that God is a working God.
II. God created man to be a W __ __ __ __ __ __ like Him.
1. When God created man, to whose image He created him (Genesis

As image-bearers of God, we are created to work. God wants us to be His
sub-creators. Since God alone can create something out of nothing, we are
to create something out of something. For example, God designed us to be
able to turn wood into a table, a metal into a tool or electrons into electricity.

Created in His image, God wants us to exercise dominion over all the earth.
This is done through Procreation, Propagation, Population, and Subjuga-
tion. God could have populated the earth all at once. But He wants us to
participate in His work of creation through procreation. He already rules
everything. But He wants us to dominate the earth through subjugation.
3. What work did God give to Adam in order to fulfill this commission
(Genesis 2:15)?

To subjugate means to bring things under control. This means that we are
allowed to shape and improve our surroundings to accomplish this goal.
Adam’s assignment in the Garden was exactly this. He is to cultivate and
keep the Garden as he sees fit.

It is noteworthy that the first man mentioned in the Bible who is said to be
filled with the Spirit of God is not a prophet or a priest or a pastor but a
craftsman. God uses craftsmen to accomplish His work.

Government authorities are servants of God because God uses military,
police and other government authorities to execute his justice and good
governance to the world.
3. Discussion: How did God answer our prayer for daily bread?
We pray: “Give us this day our daily bread.” When God answers our prayer,
did He rain bread from heaven? No. Neither bread pops up on our table.
Rather, God answers our prayer through the works of different kinds of
people. We buy bread from the bakery, through the vocation of a baker.
The baker bought his ingredients from traders. And traders got them from
farmers. And farmers deliver their goods through drivers and carriers. God
uses the work of different people to give bread into our table.
4. Discussion: Is technology a blessing or a curse?
Good products are God’s blessings to the world. Think of technology. Be-
cause of technology we travel at the speed of sound and communicate at
the speed of light. Technology is not part of the curse. Rather, it is God’s
gracious means to subdue and dominate the earth.
C. God uses work to bless the world with Good News.
God spreads His message through the work of church workers such as
preachers, evangelist, pastors, teachers, etc. But He uses corporate work-
ers too.
Jesus prayed, “I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that
you keep them from the evil one." (John 17:15). What's the reason of our
staying here (John 17:18)? _____________________________
Christ sent us into the world. Therefore, our jobs are not secular but strate-
gic. There are so many persons in our company who do not know what it
means to be a Christian. And the only illustration they can imagine is us,
their officemate. So many of them do not hear the gospel, and the only per-
son who can tell them is us, their co-worker.
Response:
God placed us where we are to proclaim who He is. He stationed us be-
tween two worlds - the church and corporate - in order to bridge the gap
and bless the world with good things and good news. So, wherever we are
now, in whatever situation we are in, let us consider it our assignment and
flourish for Christ's sake.
