ANOVA,ANCOVA,MANOVA,MANCOVA

ANOVA: Analysis of Variance

 Tests three or more groups for mean differences based on continuous response variable
 One Way ANOVA: compares levels of single factor based on single continuous response variable
 Two Way ANOVA: compares levels of two or more factors for mean differences on a single
continuous response variable

ANCOVA: Analysis of Covariance

 Single continuous response variable
 Compares response variable by both a factor and a
continuous independent variable (covariate)
 Ex) Comparing test score by both level of
education and number of hours spent studying

MANOVA: Multivariate Analysis of Variance

 Has one way factor and two way factor
 One Way MANOVA has one independent variable, Two Way Manova has two independent
variables
 One Way MANOVA: Compare two or more continuous response variables by single factor
variable
 Two Way MANOVA: Compares two or more continuous response variables by two or more
factor variables

MANCOVA: Multivariate Analysis of Covariance

 Difference from MANOVA is the nature of the IV
 MANOVA can include only factors, but MANCOVA can involve one or more covariates
 Ex) Comparing test scores and
annual income (continuous
response variables) by levels
of education including
highschool, college degree
and, graduate degree,
controlling for the number of
hours spent studying
