Research Title: A Study on Stress Level and Coping Strategies among Undergraduate Students

Journal Title: Journal of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development.

Volume and Issue Number: Vol. 3 (2)

The kind of quantitative research design utilized in the study is correlational research
design. The study is correlational because it involves 2 or more numerical values of variables.
Also, it does not show any absolute cause. The characteristic of the research design will give the
researcher the ability to test two or more variables and look back to the past to have a basis of
the study. In the study, the inquirer observes undergraduate students in an exclusive environment
setting. The researcher had a survey from eighty-six Cognitive Science undergraduates at a public
University in Malaysia by making a questionnaire for gathering data. In addition, the researcher
went back to the past to find related topics of the study that shows a positive relationship
between the two variables that can modify the study. The research design has strengths that will
make the study manageable, it can work in a shorter time and will spend less money in order to
perform the study, it uses surveys as the approach for the experimental investigation that can
allow the researcher to analyze and collect the data in a short period of time. The limitations of
the study is that it uses cross - sectional nonprobability sampling.

The weakness or limitation identified in the research design that is present in the study is
cross - sectional and non - probability sampling wherein the researcher used to gather the data.
The researcher chose correlational research design and cross - sectional non - probability
sampling. However, the researcher must use probability sampling instead of non - probability
sampling.

The independent variable of the study is the Undergraduate Students. Independent

variable is characterized as the cause for an outcome or has control that does not depend on that
of another, and it cannot be easily changed. In the study, the cause of the undergraduate students
to be stressed and the coping strategies are revealed based on their gender and ethnic group.
The dependent variable of the study is the Stress Level and Coping Strategies. Dependent
variable is characterized as the variable that is being measured or tested in the study. In addition,
it depends on that of another. The discovery of the study shows the coping strategies that are
most preferred by the undergraduate students in battling with the stress.

Ordinal scale is the level of measurement that is used in the research paper. Ordinal scale
presents the variables orderly based on the level of characteristics of the subjects. The researcher
collected the data by presenting a questionnaire to the subjects. The first variable is the
Demographic profiles, come up with data that regards the research participants. Also, it is
important for the determination of whether the individuals in a certain study are a representative
sample of the target population for generalization purposes. The second variable is the Perceived
Stress Scale (PSS), it is provided to estimate the level of perceived stress of an individual.

Quantitative study is relevant to me as a student. As a student, it is normal for us to be

stressed because we are expecting more for ourselves that we can achieve better. But, we know
how to handle our stress in our own ways of coping strategies as an individual. It enhances my
awareness about stress levels and coping strategies as a student.

The material read enhances my comprehensive skills and critical thinking. It strengthened
my knowledge about a certain topic and it gave me realizations. The activity is productive and
knowledgeable.
