Subject How to create Q1 channels over DXX
Nokia Q1-managers for FIU and FBU can be connected to the indoor unit directly via the local
management port (LMP) or remotely via a Q1 connection. NE’s within same Q1 bus must have
unique element addresses.
When launching a Q1-manager from DXX NMS an MF-agent has to be connected to the Q1-bus.
The FIU19 indoor unit has two Q1 ports (Q1-1 and Q1-2). Inside FIU19, the Q1 signal is routed
through (virtual) branching gates. It is possible to enable/disable Q1 routing by closing/opening
specific gates in FIU with Nokia Hoppermanager. Be sure that when using Q1 appropriate gate is
closed.
FBU is a DXX plug-in unit with similar functionality as FIU except there are three Flexbus IF’s and
DCN connectors are of type RJ-45. The used Q1-manager is FBUmanager.
Channel configuration
The latter method utilizes full timeslot and is compatible with all MartisDXX nodes. The former one
saves capacity, but requires that NE in question supports bit level cross connections.
Q1 bus characteristics are defined as V.11. If a laptop computer is directly connected to a Q1 port
a RS-232 to RS-422 converter is needed.
For saving Q1-ports in the MF-agent it is possible to use VCM point-to-multipoint feature for
grooming the Q1-bus.
Hopper manager is the craft terminal for Radio link installations. Use its LMP port or – if enabled –
either one of the Q1 ports to log in.

In the same menu, Q1 address is assigned for NE. To enable Q1 routing check the the positions of
Q1 branching bridge. Processor latch must be closed to let remote manager to access the FIU.
FBUmanager is the craft terminal for Radio link installations and remote management. Use its LMP
port or – if enabled – either one of the Q1 ports to log in. The outlook of GUI is a bit different from
Hoppermanager, but menus and commands are the same.

COM-port of the manager can be connected to a V.24 DCE interface with a direct D9(f)-D25(m)
PC-cable without media conversion RS232 RS 422. Cable pinout in the appendix A.
Note! Number of databits is set 8 in FIU, but in lab tests it was found that there’s actually 9 bits to
the line.
Select the interfaces by clicking on the node or the list. Route the circuit if needed and connect.
Synchronous connection
114/115 syn timing mode is used when DTE does not support 113 timing. Async mode should be
set off.

MF-agent Q1-connection
Q1-bus connectors towards NE’s are placed on top of Q1 interface units of the MF-agent. There is
space for 8 Q1-busses on each card, together 16 Q1-busses supported by each MF. Each bus has
secondary polling direction available.
