The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade*-labelled

coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.

The tables give the information about the profits earned from selling Fairtrade-
labelled coffees and bananas in the UK, Switzerland, Danmark, Belgium and
Sweden in two separate years, 1999 and 2004
Overall, it can be seen there was an upward trend in revenue from Fairtrade
coffees in all five European countries, but sales of Fairtrade bananas only rose
in three out of the five countries. The UK saw by far the highest levels of sales
for the two products.
In 1999, Switzerland has the most considerable rates in sales of Fairtrade
coffees, with 3 million euros, while revenue from Fairtrade bananas was highest
in the United Kingdom, at 15 million euros. Five years later, however, sales of
Fairtrade coffee in the UK had risen to 20 million euros, having more than
tripled compared with Switzerland’s sales figure for Fairtrade coffee in that
year. The year 2004 also witnessed dramatic increases in the sales of Fairtrade
banana in two countries UK and Switzerland, with the revenue rising by 32
million euros and 4,5 million euros respectively
In contrast, sales of the two Fairtrade products were far lower in Denmark,
Belgium, and Sweden. The money spent on Fairtrade coffee all saw minimal
growths to between 1 million and 2 million euros over the same time span.
Finally, it is evident that sales of Fairtrade bananas halved by about 1 million
euros in Belgium and Sweden
