The table below shows the proportion of different categories offamilies living in poverty in Australia in

1999.

The table gives information about poverty rates among six types of household in Australia in the year of
1999.

It is noticieble that levels of poverty was higher for people who live alone than those have their
partners, and people with children were more likely to be poor than who without it.

Overall, precisely 11% percent of Australia, which is 1837000 people, were living in poverty in 1999.
Aged people were the least likely to be poor, with poverty figures of 4% and 6% for single aged people
and aged couples respectively

Around over one fifth of single parents were living in poverty, whereas solely 12% of parents living with
a partner were classed as poor. The same pattern can be seen for ppl who did not have the ability to
born a children: while 19% of single ppl in this group were living below the poverty line, the figure for
couples were much lower, at only 7%
