That you must love me and love my Dog Summary

The essay begins with a conversation between two persons. They are talking about their
friendship but at the end of the conversation, we see that it’s all in vain when the friendship
is unsuccessful just because of a dog. In the second paragraph, we see that Charles Lamb is
trying to explain the conversation. He is trying to clear us that there is always a third
anomaly which might stand up between two persons’ friendship or relationship and the
relationship doesn’t need to be always in the shape of a dog. It can be in the shape of
anything i.e someone’s cousin or someone’s kinsman. Then the writer says that good things
never come alone and they are always accompanied by bad things. Charles Lamb further
explains his point by referring to certain famous persons in the past. He gives reference to
the renaissance. He gives references to Greek mythology. We also see that Charles Lamb
referred to his friend W.H and says, " says that “is his brethren be my necessity as well”?
Then in the 3, rd paragraph, we see that Charles Lamb says that one’s wife or expects always
expects him to cherish and respect his kinsman. No matter how bad one’s kinsman or friend
is, it’s obligatory to cherish and respect him/her. In the last paragraph, he gives an anecdote
and he is narrating the story of Merry who is a young man who is interested in a woman
who is sincere and genuine. He offers that woman to be his wife and the woman accepts his
offer but on the day of the wedding he left his wedding and ran away and the reason was
only one thing. The reason was the profession of that girl. She was no more than a dancer
and because of that Merry rejected her.
