Characterization

Q = Differentiate the personality of Dougie

Evans, Felix, Kara, Kay and Miss Penluna In
the novel “White Dolphin”

Ans = White Dolphin is an exceptional novel written

by Gill Lewis. This novel is about white dolphins, the
animals we adore the most because of their friendly
nature. This novel has a few incomparable
characters and today my group got the opportunity
to describe their personality traits in this project.
Let’s get started.
First, let’s talk about Kara the protagonist of this
novel. She is the daughter of a marine biologist.
After Kay her mother died Kara got a mental trauma
that her mother will come back soon. The first
impression of Kara in the novel was that she was
very imaginative and unrealistic. We can see this
personality in the prologue as the writer discuss
Kara’s dream that she sees a white dolphin. Next,
she is very patient as every day she endures the
words of the bully Jake Evans. Another
characteristic of her is that she is an escapist,
whenever she does something wrong she escapes
from there to go to her dream world. Her character
evolved from the time when she became friends with
Felix who was physically disabled but was mentally
very strong. She became very adventurous as we
saw this when she goes to the ocean at night and
bring the mother dolphin to Angle (Baby dolphin).
Another example of evolved character is during the
Climax of the story as she emerged as a heroine
and saves Jake and Ethan plus sacrificed Moana
and Moana was very significant in her life. In the
end, she had a positive character change as she
realizes that her mother will never come back and
things move on in life.
Next, let us talk about Felix. He resents his wealthy,
well-meaning parents for taking him to live in a
sleepy Cornish fishing village, far away from his
home and friends in London. At first, he is very
arrogant when he ignores Kara and plays his game
not even thinking that he has a guest. But he also
has a daring personality as when Kara tells him that
he can’t handle the sea and Felix took it as a
challenge. He came later to prove that he can do
whatever he wants. Next, he emerges as a leader so
we can tell that over time he developed a leadership
quality as he quickly used his idea to test the Maori
name of Dolphin for the memory stick password. He
has a good thing to take things practically because
the world doesn’t work as you wish; you need to
things seriously just like Felix in many places. He is
also very confident and independent because since
he is disabled he still doesn’t like that people come
to him to help or show kindness.

Let us move on to Kay's Mother of Kara who told

before was a marine biologist. During her research
day on Solomon Island, she disappeared during
swimming and was never to be found again. She
had a motherly personality and spent very quality
time with her daughter before the mission. She was
down to earth meaning that her rucksack was the
only thing that belonged to her. Other things like
computers etc belonged to the research Centre. She
is very helpful not only to humankind but to the
natural world and we could simply tell it by her job as
a marine biologist. Now as a Marine biologist she is
very determined with her work and nothing can
distract her which is a great thing because things
can be delayed if you are not focused.

On to another Animal lover lady Miss Penluna who

has a love for most birds, especially Jackdaw. Just
Like Kara thinks and cares about the White dolphin
similarly Miss Penluna care about Jackdaw. She
also has a friendly and kind nature toward the
natural and human world. Many people say that she
is a madwoman who thinks that she can talk to
angels but she is trying to be unique from each other
which is a good thing. She is an example of those
people who make realize other their mistake and we
can tell this in anticlimax when Miss Penluna tell
Dougie about his mistakes and that what world has
he made this character trail is one of the best traits
in any personality.

Last but not least Dougie Evans. He is more likely

the villain of the story and has many negative plus
positive traits. First of all the writer has used a
specific word for him and that is smug which is
indeed a very negative trait for any person to have
plus this represents the character in a bad way.
Next, he is a bully who doesn’t care or think about
other feelings as he bullies kara and Jim about
family and destroys everything from the person who
he hates which is Kara and her family. Although he
has good traits too and that is very good
communication skills like convincing the audience
and seeing what they want and what they want to
hear. This trait can resemble a good personality in
one way that is to impress the audience and show
them what you are on outside. Lastly, this negative
personality ends at the end of the series when
Dougie realizes that he is doing the wrong thing by
destroying nature and other's hearts in every series
her changes to a good personality as the first he did
to apologize to Jim and Kara which he never did
before and that is an excellent start.
