Activities 2017

Poetry with a pulse- The event was organised on 20th March 2017 in the New Seminar
Room. Mr. Gabor Lanczkor, a renowned Hungarian poet and Ms. Krisztina Lanczkor, an
acclaimed flutist graced the occasion with their presence. Mr. Gabor discussed with students
how to be better at the art of expressing themselves through poetry. Ms. Krisztina Lanczkor
added the musical pulse to the session by reciting her original flute composition. Expressions
Annual Event- The Expressions Annual event was organised under the theme of ‘Silence’ on
22nd March 2017 in the Seminar room. Ms. Nibedita Sen (Artist and Poet) and Ms. Rumi
Malik (from Sahitya Academy) judged the event and gave suggestions to students to improve
their creative writing skills.

The Orientation of Expressions was held to introduce the fresh students to the activities and
functioning of the society on 3rd August 2017. Student members of the society also read their
poems at the occasion. Express the Unexpressed- Expressions, conducted ‘Express the
Unexpressed’, on 10th August 2017. This was an open mic session wherein the student
members presented their poems and short prose pieces.

On 25th September, the Society organized an intra-college on the spot creative writing
competition, Wordarray, for giving a platform to the students to practice and develop their
creative writing skills. The students participated enthusiastically in the event.

Seven students of the Society participated in a creative writing workshop at the ‘Breaking
Down the Boundaries of the Unknown’ held at the American Centre conducted by Nina
McConigley (author of Cowboys and East Indians, which won the 2014 PEN Open Book
Award) on 26th and 27th October 2017. The aim of the workshop was to discuss some of the
ways in which students can use creative writing to break down barriers and seek social justice
through fiction. It was an enriching experience for the students.
