1. Describe a course that impressed you a lot

The course I am going to tell you about is on CPR or

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is an emergency lifesaving
procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate CPR
can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest.
Besides, this course also briefly introduced how to use AED, or
automated external defibrillator, and where you could find it in public
areas like airports and railway stations.

1
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
This course was organized by one of the societies in my university
and conducted in the classroom. It was about a year ago. When I was
waiting for the elevator, I noticed there was a leaflet attached on the
wall, saying a series of lessons on CPR would be hosted and anyone
who was interested was welcomed. Always eager to learn these life-
saving skills, I took down the time and the venue immediately.

The course was divided into two parts. In the first one, the lecturer
explicitly showed us how to perform CPR properly, including the
posture of the body, the specific position of hands, and the depth and
frequency of press. The second part focused on practice. Every
participant was invited to the podium to perform CPR on a dummy,
with the lecturer standing aside and making corrections when
necessary.

The course impressed me for two reasons. Firstly, I cannot believe such
an important skill was so easy to master. Second, as a student not
majoring in medicine, it was the first time I touched a dummy, which
was a pretty amazing experience.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. Why do some people have a better memory?

The human brain is very complex, and it is very difficult to understand why some people
have a better memory than others. Part of the reason can be genetics and some people
are just born with better memory. But at the same, I think memory is like a muscle and
can be trained. People can use many techniques to train their memories to be better.
2. Which can help people remember things better, words or photos?
Yes, images are far more memorable than words. We are all familiar with saying “a
picture speaks a thousand words”. Words are hard to remember because they’re abstract
and our brains can’t easily latch onto them. On the other hand, our brains store and
recall images much more easily.
3. Can technology help people remember things better? How?
I don’t think that technology helps people remember things better. In fact, relying on
technology means we don’t need to remember very much. We can just set reminders on
our smartphones for everything and get an alert when it’s time to do it. Also, internet has
made information about any topic readily available to us. So we don’t feel the need to
remember information that can be easily found through search engines like google.

2. Describe a gift you would like to buy for your friend

The gift I would like to buy is a smart speaker developed by Baidu, a

Vietnamese tech giant, specializing in the search engine. This device
connects to the voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service,
“xiaodu”, which responds to the name “xiaodu, xiaodu”.

I want to give it to my best friend, Xiaoming, who attended the same
primary school and secondary school as me. He just had a small surgery
on his eyes and according to the doctor, the wound needs approximately
a month to recover, which means he cannot play video games, watch TV
programs, or read books. This article is from Laokaoya website. In other
words, he is blind temporarily. Staying at home, unable to go anywhere,
he is bored to death. So I want to buy something that he can use to kill
time.

3
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS

But it is easier said than done. Most of the products on the market are
designed for ordinary people and are unsuitable for those who are blind. I
browsed the online shopping website, hoping to find something useful,
and after two days’ restless digging, I accidentally found the smart
speaker.

It is perfect for his condition. You do not need to see or touch
anything. Talk is enough. Through voice interaction, it can play music,
make a to-do list, set alarms, stream podcasts, play audiobooks and do a
lot of other things. With this device, I believe my friend will successfully
make it through the recovery period.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. What is the importance of gifts?

Gifts are gestures of love. They strengthen bonds of friendship. Gifts make the recipient
feel special.
OR
Gifts are an integral part of our lives. Gifts are given not only on special occasions, but
also when you want to make people happy. We often give gifts to confirm or establish a
connection with others. This means that it reflects both the donor and the recipient, as
well as their unique relationship. When you give a gift to a loved one, you can express
your feelings of gratitude and gratitude for that person.

2. Is there any pressure on us to buy presents?

No one is obliged to give a gift. It depends only on the person. It’s up to you to give a
gift to another person on a special occasion.
OR
As such, there is no pressure on us to buy presents. But sometimes when we receive
costly presents then there is a pressure to reciprocate in the same way. Then it may cause
pressure. I believe that gifts should be just gestures of love. Very costly gifts should not
be there.
Nowadays, we belong to a consumerist society. There are so many choices of gifts. This
may seem good to some, but I often get confused when it comes to selecting a gift.

3. Do Indian people often give gifts

Almost all cultures have traditions and etiquette related to receiving and giving gifts.

4
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
Giving a gift is a way of expressing love. The custom of giving gifts is famous all over the
world, even in modern India. Gifts are usually not given in a business context. However, if
you are invited to visit an Indian house, a gift is appropriate

4. What’s the value of giving presents?

We give people gifts to show that we are grateful to them and that they are grateful for
the role they play in our lives. Gifts are always an important part when you want to build
a solid and loving relationship. This is because, in general, gifts provide a variety of
benefits aimed at strengthening your relationship and continuing it forever.
OR
Gifts are gestures of love. They give happiness to the giver as well as the
receiver.Describe some of the gifts that Indian people give each other on different
occasions. People give all sorts of gifts to each other. They give sweets, chocolates,
clothes, electronic items or gift cards to their friends and relatives.

3. Describe a rule that you do not like

The rule I am going to tell you about is that we are prohibited from
leaving campus during the last term to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
We were just like prisoners who could only roam around in a confined
area. In fact, the only difference between us and them was that we did not
have to follow a strict daily routine and report everything we had done.

I believe nobody would like this rule. Our freedom was deprived and
ties with the outside world were cut off. Lovers in different schools could
not meet each other. The delicious restaurants situated right around the
street corner were out of reach. Video games soon lost their amusement
and my roommates and I started to invent various silly games to kill time.
This was literally the most boring period in my 21 years of life.

To be honest, our feelings towards this rule were fairly complex. We
knew it was the necessary measure to keep us safe. After all, schools were
densely populated and students could barely keep a reasonable social
distance considering their collective lifestyle. If one of us was infected, the

5
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
whole school would soon collapse. But it was really challenging for us to
welcome it wholeheartedly.

This confinement lasted for over two months and no matter how
bored we were, no one had ever breached the rule. We were surely afraid
of the punishment. But most importantly, we did not want to endanger
others because of our misbehaviour.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. Why do schools make rules?

Schools make rules to maintain discipline. They are the centres of learning, where
children are moulded into responsible adults. We all have to follow rules, imposed by the
government, as adults. So, schools start that process of obeying rules in childhood only
2. What’s the importance of obeying law?
Without law, we would be living in utter chaos. There would be crime everywhere and life
would be difficult for the common man. For example, if we don’t obey traffic rules, we
would have many accidents. If there were no property rules, people would make their
houses anywhere and the whole city would be unplanned.
3. What can parents and teachers do to help children follow rules?
Parents and teachers can be good role models for children. Children are copycats. If they
see their elders following rules, they will do it automatically. Just telling them to do
something will not have that much effect.
4. Is it a good thing to break rules sometimes?
It is definitely not good to break rules, but sometimes in case of emergencies, for
example, if we have to make way for an ambulance to pass, we may need to break rules.
Sometimes, it is a matter of life and death.

4. Describe a story someone told you and you remember

The history of the story I am going to tell you about can be traced
back to over 2000 years ago. Back then, a young man in a remote
village heard that people in Handan walked in a very elegant way and
decided to go there and learn. Once he arrived, he was fascinated by
the pedestrians on the street and started imitating their moves
immediately. He followed a middle-aged man for a while and then

6
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
switched to a child, and then a senior citizen, and then a woman.
However, a month later, his walking style deteriorated instead of
being improved.

I first heard this story when I was a little kid. Before I went to bed,
my mom would read me various fables, hoping that I could learn
something useful from them. And after I got enrolled in primary
school, this story also appeared in my textbook and the exam paper.
So it is basically embedded in my blood and I am pretty sure I will still
remember it when I turn into my 70s.

But for years, it was just another story I had heard and
remembered, nothing special, until the last year of my high school.
With the college entrance exam approaching, I was desperate to
improve my academic performance. So I consulted the straight-A
student in my class and asked him to share his learning habit and
experience. Then, I did exactly what he told me. But when I found his
method does not work a week later, I turned to another one, and then
the third one, the fourth one. Suddenly, I realized that I was just like
the young man trying to learn how to walk elegantly in Handan, and I
would never succeed if I continued in this way.

Since then, I have developed a special feeling towards this story. It
taught me such an important lesson with simple words, but I failed to
grasp it for years.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. Has storytelling changed over a period of time?

Yes, definitely. Everything changes with time. My grandmother used to tell me stories
from her memory, and had no book in her hand. Now, I see my sister reads out stories to
her children from the various books she buys from the market. Telling stories to children
has also largely been replaced by watching TV. Grandparents, parents and children are
glued to the TV screen for long hours and there is no time left for story telling.
2. Which way is better, traditional storytelling or the use of technology in
storytelling?
I believe the traditional method is much better. It has a personal touch and increases the
bonding between parents or grandparents and children. Unfortunately, it is dying out
and programmes like curious George and ChhotaBhim are taking its place.

7
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
3. Do you think that generally most of the people are good at storytelling?
It is very difficult to generalize and answer this question. One thing is sure, and that is
that we all tell stories from time to time in our life. Some people are born storytellers and
can bind their audiences for long periods of time. They can concoct stories on the spur of
the moment. It is difficult to tell whether their stories are fake or real.
4. What makes storytelling effective?
The way the stories are told can make any story effective. The use of gestures also helps.
Using the right pauses at the right places and good pronunciation makes the stories
effective. But, perhaps the most important thing to see is to read the interest of the
audience. Fairy tales may amuse children, but may not create impact on adult listeners.
Young people may be interested to hear stories related to their favourite celebs.

5. Describe a special cake you received from others

I clearly remember it was in the afternoon of July 8th, which was

the 100th anniversary of our school, that the administration of our
school held a banquet to honour that meaningful day.

Out of my expectation, the school has ordered a gigantic birthday
cake to celebrate. I was not sure if the size was big enough to break
the Guinness World Record but it could feed almost all the guests at
the event, which include hundreds of students, all faculty members,
and lots of alumni. On the topper, there was a huge LOGO surrounded
by our school name and a myriad of best wishes in both Vietnamese
and English.

It was not a typical round cake, but a rectangle one which made it
easier for more people to cut. I got a piece of the cake handed by my
advisor. And, luckily, I was one of the few who got the cake with
numbers.

Well, I think the biggest reason why it was a special cake was that
this was the first time I received a cake to honour something that lasts
for more than 100 years. Also, it was the biggest cake that I have ever
seen in my life. So, I feel truly grateful that I had the opportunity to
witness this meaningful event in my high school.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. What are the differences between special food made in India and other
countries?
I think food is a big part of Indian culture and we love to prepare big feasts on special
occasions.I think the difference between special food in India and other countries is that
its mostly vegetarian. Secondly, there is high use of spices in Indian food, even some
desserts have spices.
2. Is there any food in your country which is eaten on special occasions or special
times?
Yes, in fact there are so many dishes like that. India is big and diverse country and every
region has it own delicacy which is normally tied with a festival or special occasion. For
example, Biryani is eaten during Eid in many parts of India like Hyderabad and on Lohri, a
special dish made out of mustard leaves called saag is made in Punjab.
3. Why are some people willing to spend a lot money on meals on special days?
I think it’s because a lot of family members and relatives are together during these days
and having special meals makes such events more memorable. I think festivals, in
general, make us happier and because of the good mood, we don’t mind spending a bit
extra on the holidays.
4. Do you think it’s good to communicate when eating with your family?
I think it’s one of the best times to communicate with family members. First, when having
food, we are in a better mood, so we are less likely to get into arguments. In addition,
people are free during this time, so the communication can we without any distraction

6. Describe a skill that you learned from older people

The skill I am going to tell you is time management. It is the

process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on
specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency and
productivity. It involves a juggling act of various demands upon a
person relating to work, social life, personal interests and so on with
the finiteness of time.

9
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
For somebody, time management is quite a natural thing. They do
not even realize they are doing this in their everyday life. However, for
me, acquiring this skill was pretty challenging. I did not have the habit
of planning things and allocating appropriate time to various tasks. As
a result, at the end of the day, I often found I had squandered my time
and had not completed anything.

Realizing this problem, I turned to my grandpa for advice. He used
to be a Vietnamese teacher in the public school, and after retirement,
he had founded a successful company that provided after-school
crammers. He was always highly organized and efficient. He said time
management could be achieved through four procedures, which are
creating an environment conducive to effectiveness, setting priorities
and goals, elimination of non-priorities, and implementation of goals. I
should say, after his guidance, my efficiency did improve a lot.

I think time management is important because it is the key to
success. It allows me to take control of my life rather than following
the flow of others. With this skill, I can accomplish more tasks and
acquire more knowledge every day, gaining me an advantage over my
peers

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. What can children learn from their parents?

Children learn by observing their parents, they are their role models especially during
their early years. Parents can teach children important life lessons just by modelling good
behaviour. Respecting others, working hard, positive attitude, eating healthy, saving
money, helping the needy are some life lessons children can learn from their parents.
2. What knowledge can children learn from their grandparents?
Grandparents have years of wisdom that they love to share with their grandkids. Children
can learn about history and growing up in times totally different from now. It is much
more interesting to learn about history from personal grandparent stories than books.
Children can also learn practical skills like sewing, knitting, gardening, baking which
parents nowadays either don’t know or are too busy to teach.
3. What kind of help do you think older people need?
• Help with chores like laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning, etc.
• Having caring family around so they don’t feel lonely is also helpful.
• Help with learning new technologies like smartphones
• Older people need good nutrition and healthy meals to stay fit.
• Regular doctor visits and tests to make sure everything is ok with their health.
• Help with transportation if they can’t drive themselves.
4. What skills can young people learn from older people?
Older people have years of experience and have seen both success and failures. Young
people can learn important life lessons from them. For instance, they can learn to
appreciate the good times and have the courage to face the bad times. They can learn
that family matters the most and making time for loved ones is very important. Elders
can teach them the importance of saving money for emergencies and for their
retirement.

7. Describe an item of clothing that some gave you

The clothes I am going to tell you about is a grey two-button slim-
cut suit. Unlike the serious formality of a black suit, this one remains
formal but gives off an air of approachability. With a loud printed shirt
and a bold tie, it will turn me into the most handsome person of any
activity and catch all the others’ eyes.

11
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
It was given to me by my father, a solemn middle-aged man
working at a financial institution. Wearing a suit during working hours
was written in the code of his workplace. During all these years of
purchasing this kind of clothes, he had developed an acute aesthetic.
The moment I saw the suit, I fell in love with it.

If my memory serves me right, this happened two years ago, a day
before I embarked on the journey to my university. When I was packing
all my belongings in my room, my father knocked on the door and
walked in with this item at his hand. At first, I thought this was another
suit he bought for himself, and he just wanted my praise. But he said
this was for me.

Now, I still remembered his words. “You are already 18, a grown-up
man. After you enter the university, you will need to attend some
formal activities, like a debate competition or a job interview. This suit
will enhance your image and leave others a positive impression”.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions
1. What kinds of clothes do people wear after work?
People wear comfortable and casual clothes after work, because usually at work, people
have to wear uniforms or formal clothes. Once people come back home, they like to relax
and want to be more comfortable.
2. What kind of clothes should people wear at work?
At work people should wear proper and formal clothes. At some workplaces, uniforms
are needed, which gives them an identity and develops a sense of discipline. It also
depends on the type of work people do. If someone is working as a gym instructor, he or
she cannot wear formal clothes to work. They have to wear sports wear.
3. Do you think students need to wear school uniforms?
Yes, I think students need to wear school uniforms, as they act as a social
leveler/equalizer. Uniforms give an identity to the students and also inculcate a sense of
discipline among students. Uniforms are also good for the school’s security, as if any
miscreants enter the school, they can be easily spotted.
4. Where do Indian people buy clothes?
Indian people buy clothes from shops and stores in the local markets and in shopping
malls. There are many small-scale stores and boutiques that are run from home, from
where people shop for clothes. Also, online shopping is very popular in India. There are
many popular shopping websites, like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and so on, from where
people buy clothes.

8. Describe a thing you did to learn another language

I’d like to share an experience I had when I was starting to learn

French in college about two years ago.

You know, French wasn’t a course in our school until I entered
college. I guess it was probably because there was an increasing need
for students to learn that. For this reason, our school administration
decided to open this course as an elective. But, there was only one
French teacher available in our school who had to teach four different
classes. The entire French learning time during that academic year
was actually not that enough.

13
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
So, I had to seek other methods to polish my French language
skills. And, one crazy thing I did was to find an international student
from France on our campus as a language partner. It took me about a
week to find a guy who was willing to do so. We normally have a meet-
up biweekly as both of us were quite busy at school. When we got
together, we usually grabbed some food at the nearby cafe and spent a
whole afternoon chatting. He taught me whatever he could about
things in French, and I helped him improve his Vietnamese. Even
when the covid happened, we didn’t stop. We just moved our
conversation online.

Well, I think the biggest benefit I got from that experience was that
I am now way more confident and fluent in striking up a French
conversation than in the past.

I’m grateful that I got this opportunity to learn French. You know,
not everyone can have that chance to find a partner like this to
practice a foreign language.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. What difficulties do people face when learning a language?

One of the challenges is the phonological difference. There are some sounds that exist in
one language but not in the other language. Another difficulty is learning the grammar
and the sentence structure of the new language.

2. Do you think language learning is important? Why?

Yes, I think language learning is important as it develops skills such as communication
and cultural awareness. Learning a foreign language also opens all sorts of career
opportunities. Learning new languages leads to cognitive development. Bilingual and
multilingual children do better in other subjects too.

3. Which is better, to study alone or to study in a group? Why?

When you study in a group, you tend to retain more information. This is because you
interpret 3-our notes and put the information into your own words rather than reading a
textbook.

4. What’s the best way to learn a language?

There are many ways to learn a language. There is no one best way. One must do a
combination of things to get fluent in a language like practicing daily on language
learning apps like Duolingo, watching movies in the foreign language, reading books and
newspapers, having a tutor or a native speaker online to practice with, and traveling to
those countries.

9. Describe an interesting song

An interesting song that I would like to talk about is from a

Vietnamese American singer called the Đình Long, who was a
superstar in Vietnam but has been involved in some scandals recently.

The name of the song is Những Điều Em Chưa Biết, which is
literally translated as Things You Don’t Know. It is also the theme song
of a very popular movie named Love in Disguise, which depicts a
superstar who tries to hide his fame to chase an average girl he falls in

15
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
love with. And, the song is created to mainly express his love to the
girl while keeping lots of his secrets that he finds difficult to disclose.

The song has become quite a hit right after the movie was released
to the public in 2010. You know, the melody and the lyrics were both
perfect, and many of his fans put this song on loop. Interestingly, when
the scandal that Wang has cheated his wife and gave her emotional
abuse came out recently, the song once again caught the attention of
millions of Vietnamese gossip listeners.

Well, I guess the main reason why it is interesting is that the lyrics
are kind of prophetic. You know, it said that there are lots of other
things you don’t know about me. Then, 11 years later, what was
written in the song has become a reality.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. Do teenagers and adults enjoy the same kind of songs?

It depends on the personal taste. Generally speaking, teenagers like songs with fast beats
and adults like songs with good lyrics and soft music.
2. What are the factors, which make people like a song?
A song should have good lyrics, a good composition, a pleasing voice and a good video
to be liked by people.
3. On which occasions do people in your country sing together?
In my country, people sing together on birthday parties, marriages, anniversaries and
national holidays like Independence Day and so on.
4. Which kinds of songs are suitable for children? Why?
I think folk songs are very suitable for children because they keep children connected to
their culture and tradition. As it is, today’s children are following the global culture and
so, they need to be kept in touch with our traditional culture. Folk songs are a good way
to connect with our culture.

10. Describe something you received for free

16
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
Something I received for free was actually a Bible. It was kind of a
gift that I got from someone about five years ago when I was a senior
high school student.

It was a New International Version that included the Old Testament
and the New Testament in both English and Vietnamese. It was printed
very well on paper with gold foil packed up with leather. You know, it
was the most nicely decorated book I have ever seen.

Well, I got this fancy freebie from an American exchange student
named David who was sharing an apartment with me. You know, one
day, I saw him holding a book that had shining edges in the living room.
Just out of curiosity, I asked him what that book was about. Then, he
told me it was a Bible, which at the time I had no knowledge about. He
found that I was very interested in the book and gave it to me for free.

Honestly, at first, I felt very embarrassed to get this book from him.
You know, it was a brand-new Bible with deluxe packing, which I guess
he just bought from the bookstore, and soon it became mine. Anyways,
I was grateful that I got this opportunity to have a deeper
understanding of Christianity through the book even though I am a
non-believer.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

1. Do you think people should pay for higher education? Why?

I definitely think that people should pay for higher education themselves. I think people
should only go for higher education when they are really interested. Paying it for
ourselves means- we do it only when we really want to. At the same time, I also feel that
government should provide scholarships and loans to poor students so that they don’t
leave education because of money.
2. Is it good or bad for people to have a free education in the future?
I think free primary education is good because everyone should get primary education
but I think higher education should be paid for by the student themselves. Actually, I
don’t think it is possible for the government to fund higher education for everyone.
3. What free gifts do companies usually give to their customers?
In India, I think companies give small gifts like pens, calendars and cups, etc to
customers. They are free gifts for customers but in a way, they are advertising for the
company. Then, there are also deals like buy one- get one free, which are technically

17
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
gifts, but in a way – the prices factor in the free gift such that the company is still in
profit.
4. Why do customers like to receive free gifts from companies?
I think there is no better feeling than getting something for free. It is just human nature,
when we get something for free- we feel lucky. When we buy something, we are always
thinking, whether we could have gotten something better for the same price, whether we
were cheated, but when we get something for free, we feel like we couldn’t get a better
deal because what’s better than free.

11. Describe something that was broken in your home and then repaired

Something that was broken but then fixed that I would like to talk
about was actually the air conditioner in my home.
It was a Haier cabinet AC that was bought by my parents from the
biggest local shopping mall about seven years ago. It has been in
perfect function until last summer during the covid period.

It was during a summer night that the AC was out of function. I
remember that night was extremely sultry. Both I and my parents were
relying on this giant helper to cool down the rooms for comfy sleeping.
However, it was suddenly powered off at midnight for no reason. My
father got up and checked it out but didn’t come up with any solutions,
which made us feel tormented in bed during that night.

Seeing this situation, my father immediately called the customer
service of the AC company in the morning and luckily had it fixed the
other day. The main problem we were told by the repairman was that
the engine was broken and it soon came alive after the replacement of
that part.

Well, that good news literally made my day and the whole summer.
You know, I just couldn’t stand the heat, and I was so grateful that it got
fixed in time.

12. Describe something that you can’t live without (not a

computer/phone)

Something that I can’t live without is actually the treadmill which is

the only giant machine for sports in my home.

It is an item I got with discounts from the last Double Eleven online
shopping event. This machine has different modes that allow me to do
some running at various speeds. Also, it comes with a huge display
between two handles to simulate the real outdoor running situation,
which I think is pretty helpful. You know, it makes my running not that
boring.

Normally, I would use this machine for thirty minutes of running
per day to keep fit as I can’t go outside quite often due to various
reasons. Apart from that, I would also put my little corgi on that
treadmill to help him lose some weight. You know, he was a bit nervous
at the very beginning, but soon became quite accustomed to the
running activity on this machine. So, it basically helped all the family
members to improve our health conditions.

I guess the biggest reason why I feel that I can’t live without it is
that this treadmill has helped me to form my own habit of running. If I
can’t use it for just one day, my body would feel uncomfortable. So, I
wish this machine can last forever.

13. Describe a toy you had in your childhood

The toy I am going to tell you is the model of a transformer. When

I was 5 or 6 years old, the cartoon ‘transformers’ was very popular
in Vietnam. Every night at 6.30, I would sit in front of the television
and wait for the good Optimus Prime and his fellow warriors fighting
against the evil Megatron. My classmates and I even played their roles
in the day and fought against each other at school.

One day when my father and I were shopping in a mall, I notice the
model of Optimus Prime on the counter of a shop. It may be a little
crude in today’s perspective, but then it was the best thing I had ever
seen. Do not copy or repost it. I could not move my eyes. After begging
my father for almost half an hour, he finally agreed to buy it.

It was the best toy in my childhood, with not only flexible joints
but also two forms. It could change from human to a truck, a true
transformer. Every day, I held it in my hand, imagining that I was
fighting against Megatron and saving the earth. I shouted their slogan
or made the sound of shooting and explosion. I was so absorbed in my
own world that sometimes I even forgot to eat. Oh, I miss it.

But guide sewing machines continue to be used. These possess a hand pedal or a foot

must operate it herself when she sews.

14. Describe something that surprised you

The unexpected experience I am going to tell you about is that I
achieved the meritorious winner, the third level of the award, in the
Mathematical Contest in Modeling. It is an annually-held competition
that originated in the United States, now attracting thousands of
international teams of three undergraduates or postgraduates to
participate. Candidates have to analyze the given question, establish
a model for it and then write a formal academic paper within 96
hours.

It was the 15th of June in 2019, 4 months after we submitted our
paper. According to the announcement on the official website of this
contest, the organizer would release the list of winners on its
homepage and send emails to every participant at 9 o’clock. I
turned on the notification of my email box in case I missed any letter
and had been refreshing the page from 8.45. When I was anxiously
waiting for the loading, I received an email that started with
congratulations.

To be honest, although I devoted enormous effort to the competition,
I had never expected I would win an award. After all, as a student
majoring in social science, my specialty lay in analysis and essay
writing rather than mathematics. I just could not help yelling out and
swinging my arm in the air the moment I read the email. I jumped off
my bed and went to celebrate this piece of good news with my
teammates.

15. Describe an important river/lake in your country

India is a diverse country.

There are many rivers, lakes, beaches in India which are important.

One important river that I would like to talk about here is the river
Tiền Giang, as we popularly call it.

I don’t exactly remember when I learnt about it but I think it was
most likely in school. It was a part of Geography class which covered
major Indian rivers. I think I learnt more about it as I grew older
through news. I don’t know everything about it but I do know quite a
lot about it.It emerges out of the Himalayas from the glaciers and
falls into the Bay of Bengal. It is a perennial river as water is available
throughout the year. It receives water from two sources, the glaciers
in the Himalayas and the rainfall in the monsoon season.

It is impressive for many reasons, the first being its length.
It is one of the longest rivers of the world, and it is the longest river
in India. Many people are dependent upon it for their livelihood.
The farmers use its water for agriculture, and people also do fishing
in this river. The river is also famous for religious reasons.
It is considered sacred, and many Hindu festivals are organised on
the banks of the river. In fact, the last rites of local traditions are
conducted on the river banks as well.

22
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
A dip in the river is believed to wash away all the sins. However, in
recent years, I have heard about the river mostly for the wrong
reasons, like excessive pollution, illegal fishing, and illegal sand
mining from the river banks. I have also heard about fish and
dolphins dying because of these activities.

The governments have promised to bring about changes, but
unfortunately, the results have been far from satisfactory. I also
believe that government can’t do anything if people do not support it
in its actions.

seas?
People like to go to such places because they can do various activities there and have a

energy.

IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
a special birthday party, which she arranged totally by herself – and
invited a few of us. It started in the afternoon at the opening of an art
gallery which belonged to one of her friends – there were snacks,
wine, some talks about art, and some really fascinating and
interesting people there.

Then five of us moved on to a restaurant nearby, a Yunnan
restaurant, and had a fantastic meal. She loves the more tropical-
themed places of south China so she almost always chooses
restaurants like this. After eating and presenting her with her cake
and gifts, we went to a jazz club where we had cocktails and sat and
watched some live jazz music.

The singer was incredible. We stayed there until the very end, then
moved on to a nightclub which was louder and more raucous and
much less sophisticated – but by this point we were pretty drunk and
wanted to let our hair down and have fun and dance. So, we danced
for hours, almost until dawn, actually.

It was a fantastic occasion, and I enjoyed how varied the day was,
and how I met and chatted with so many interesting and random,
cool people. Lala is a great friend and I’m really looking forward to
her next birthday, actually! I felt great about the whole day and it
gave me a renewed inspiration for life in my city – especially as I had
been feeling quite down about things at the time.

17. Describe something you do to keep fit and healthy

The activity I am going to tell you about that keeps me healthy is

badminton. I am a huge fan of this sport, would never miss a single
game broadcasted by the TV station, and also bought a lot of
professional equipment, such as specially-designed shoes, expensive

rackets, and fast-dry clothes. It is kind of an indispensable part of my
life.

Every Sunday morning, I would book a court in the stadium near my
home and call my friends to hold a small match. I choose this time
because most of my friends and I still need to go to school on
Saturdays and the stadium would be quite busy in the afternoons,
which makes it very challenging to make a reservation.

We use the rules of the formal game. The person who first strikes 21
points is the winner. He or she can stay on the court while the loser
would be replaced by the one who has been sitting on the bench. In
this way, everyone has an opportunity to play and even the best
player cannot hold the position too long due to his/her limited
stamina.

Badminton is quite an intensive activity. With constant running,
lunging, diving, and hitting, it burns fat significantly. Moreover, as a
student who always needs to sit in front of the desk or the computer
to finish my homework, it also saves me from a sedentary lifestyle
and allows me to relax the muscle on my back and neck.

18. Describe a traditional product in your country

The traditional product I am going to tell you about is Vietnamese

tea. According to popular legend, tea was discovered by Vietnamese
Emperor Shen Nong about 5000 years ago when a leaf from a nearby
shrub fell into water the emperor was boiling. He believed that tea
can clean our stomachs and serve as antidote. Tea is deeply woven
into the history and culture of China. It reminds people of the more

civilized, meditative and sophisticated times in China’s history,
before the crassness of communism or the current obsession with
over-capitalist materialism and greed. It takes me back to a time
when we sat and enjoyed calm philosophical and cultural
conversations and enjoyed art and literature and discussion and
debate.

The beverage is considered one of the 4 necessities of
Vietnamese life, along with firewood, rice, salt. And it can be
classified into five distinct categories based on the different fry
methods.

Ever since I remember, tea has been a part of my life. When you
make a Vietnamese tea, just put it into boiling water. Never add milk
or sugar. Wait for a few minutes so that the color, flavor, and
goodness to come out. Then you take a deep breath to appreciate its
fragrancy and begin to sip. Generally speaking, it would taste a little
bitter at first, which I suspect may be the reason that Vietnamese tea
is not popular abroad. But after several seconds, you can feel
sweetness on your tongue.

I love tea, not only because it is beneficial for my health, but
because it is also a good way to socialize. During my spare time, I
often invite two or three friends under the excuse of tasting some
special tea and have a wonderful time.

19. Describe something you do that can help you concentrate on work/study

26
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS

What really helps me focus on my studies is classical music – light
classical music. I always put violin or piano music on when I am
studying. This helps my mind detach from the stresses and strains of
daily life, and helps to make my thoughts calm and focused. I don’t put
it on loudly. I just put it on in the background, and I choose really calm
concertos that are not too fast or too erratic.

It’s a habit I’ve had for many years, which started when I was in high
school, and a teacher recommended it. I began doing it in my dorm at
university almost every time I had to study and I found it worked
wonderfully. In those days, I used to listen to music on headphones,
and I didn’t use it quite much during the daytime, when everybody was
rushing their own business. Usually, I would listen to it during the night
time, when I need some light music to maintain focus after a tiring day.

But now I have my own room. I play it on speakers from my computer.

I am a person who needs to be in a quiet place when I am studying – a
place where I cannot hear the sound of traffic on the roads or anything
like this – so putting on calming, relaxing classical music can also help
to drown out any of the sound of the city that might come in through
the window.

So far, I’ve found this method has been pretty effective to help me to
loosen up or to concentrate on my own stuff. Sometimes I need a little
bit sound in silence to help me keep focused, and sometimes I need
piano music in a noisy environment so that I won’t be easily distracted.
So, I will definitely keep using this way to improve my life quality in the
future.

20. Describe an invention that has changed the world in a positive way

27
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
An important invention that has changed our lives is the Internet, which is quite
useful in every corner of the world.
The birth of the Internet has brought us a revolutionary change, which makes
our daily lives much more convenient than before. We can buy pretty much
everything online from small things like food and clothes to big items like furniture
etc. It also lets us stay connected. We are able to communicate with people nearly
from any place in the world through some Internet-based social media tools like
Facebook or Twitter. This article is from Laokaoya website. We don’t need to wait
for quite a long time to send our letters from one city to another. We can do it just
by clicking the mouse and the message will be sent to the destination within
seconds.
What I’ve found is that the Internet is especially popular amongst the
youngsters. Almost all of their life is built on it. By contrast, for the elders, especially
people like our grandparents, on only rare occasions do they use the Internet. This is
maybe because they are quite used to their traditional lifestyles.
I think the Internet is definitely one of the greatest inventions in the world in
human history. You know, it is and will be an accelerator that could make our lives
much more convenient and colorful in the future.

21. Describe a way/change that helps you save a lot of time

The change I am going to tell you about is that I bought a bicycle which
significantly reduces the time I spend on my commute. My university is a huge one.
Although I live right on the campus, it still took me over 40 minutes to walk to and
from the teaching building. Considering that I needed to do this at least two times a
day, a lot of time was wasted on the road.

Then one day, when I was waiting for my friends at the east gate, I noticed that
the communication company had set up a stall by the street with a hoarding saying

28
IELTS ĐÌNH LONG - ĐỀ CƯƠNG THÁNG 5678 – 2022 - NHÓM ĐỀ 2.3 – OBJECTS
that as long as you topped up 500 RMB, you would get a foldable bicycle for free. I
was attracted. After some consultation and confirmation, I paid the money and got a
bicycle in return.

It was a tiny, green one, with the company’s logo on the basket. In fact, you
might mistake it as a toy for teenagers, and I had to admit that it was far inferior to
those high-end ones. This article is from Laokaoya website. But it was functional, and
that was enough. With it, my commuting time decreased from 40 minutes to merely
10 minutes, leaving me more time to sleep, enjoy a decent breakfast, and complete
my homework.

I feel pleased and lucky with this change. If I had not seen the stall, I might stick
to walking for another year until I could no longer put up with it.
