Subject: Mother’s Day Present for Mum

Hi Sis,

Thanks for your email. Sorry for the late reply as I was quite busy with my
assignment. Well, I suggest we get a handbag for Mum because the one she’s
using is worn out. I saw her looking at one Gucci bag at the mall last weekend.
It’s a nice stylish one in black. The price is about RM500. I’m quite sure she
loves the handbag so much as she keeps on asking the sales girl so many
questions regarding it. Oh yes, this weekend there’ll be a discount of 25% so the
bag will cost RM400. If you agree to the gift, perhaps we should tell mum that
we’re getting her the handbag. Otherwise, she’ll make a beeline for it this
Saturday when the sales begin.

Reply soon.

In this new globalization era while many would prefer to study abroad, I,
however, would like to study locally. In my opinion, it is not necessary to
further my education in another country as we have many collages that offer
courses equal as the one abroad
Local colleges and universities are equipped with good facilities and their
lecturers are qualified and experienced in the corporate sector. Many of these
lecturers get their PhD abroad and some of them are Top in class. The chance of
exploring foreign culture and meeting a lot of people studying abroad is
exciting. But like coins, everything has two faces and studying locally doesn’t
mean that you will not get the same quality of education, as well as memorable
experience and fun friends as those who are studying abroad.
In addition, parents will not have to spend so much on education. Fees at
local higher learning institutions are much more affordable compared to
overseas universities. On the other hand, those furthering their studies abroad
have to learn to adjust to a new learning environment. Some students resort to
working part-time to cover their high university fees. For a lot of people,
especially those whose household income is enough for everyday needs, this
could always be the main concern for them when it comes to the decision
making regarding studies. Apart from the staggeringly high tuition fees, you
must also take into account the living costs as well.
I am interested in the field of graphic design and there are many colleges
and universities in Malaysia offering diploma and degree programmes in this
field. Therefore, I would pursue my studies in Malaysia to reap the benefits of
studying locally.

Nowadays many families keep a pet as a play mate or to guard their
house. Research shows that Kids who own a pet will teach them to be more
responsible and more matured. Common pets are cats and dogs, but others also
keep fish or hamsters as pets too. I, too, have a pet—a rabbit. It has soft white
fur and a bushy tail. I recently get a gift from my sister who knew how much I
wanted to have a rabbit after watching Alice in Wonderland.
Some people think that having a pet is a messy business, well not for me.
I would make sure my rabbit is happy and healthy at all times. At first I find it
quite difficult but by time I started doing it I genuinely believe that I have a
special bond with my pet rabbit. It is one feeling of emotion that I never had
before. Moreover, I provide fresh vegetables and rabbit pellets as well as clean
drinking water so that it eats well and stays healthy. I’m so lucky to have a pet
store near my neighbourhood, so it’s easy for me to go and buy the stuff I need.
Or sometimes I buy it online at shoppee when they offer great discount.
Every day, I brush it regularly to remove loose fur because if it swallows
a furball, it will stop eating. My friend Linda suggests me to look into YouTube
channel and watch Vlog of other pet’s owner. I was amazed watching Vlog by
pet owner around the globe and how they share their remarkable journey in
taking care of their pet. I learnt so many things from A – Z by watching these
videos and it helps me a lot on becoming a good pet owner. I take my rabbit to
the veterinarian from time to time to make sure it is free from diseases.
Pets provide companionship and keep you fit. But most importantly,
when we care for pets, we become independent, disciplined and less self-
centered as we need to spend time feeding and cleaning them. Simultaneously,
as we grow up, we will be a better person and show empathy to others as well.

Internet is undoubtedly a wonderful resource for teenagers. Many use it to

help them complete their assignments, keeps in touch with friends and play
virtual games. It is transforming our lifestyle to a great extent.  Life is
undoubtedly becoming more relaxed and faster with the invasion of the internet
because everything is only a click away. But there are risks when using the
internet.

The use of the internet is a significant source of distraction to youngsters.

Surfing the web causes addition to people of all ages. It consumes our valuable
time of study and work. We are unable to concentrate on essential things.
Children spend their time frivolously playing games, connecting with friends on
social media, exchanging pictures, etc.

Teenagers especially can become victims of cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying includes sending hateful messages to teenagers, spreading lies
about them. Victims of cyberbullying suffer mentally and emotionally due to
threats made by cyberbullies. Another danger is the interaction with virtual
strangers who have bad intentions. Chat rooms and social networking sites are
known to be the target for sexual predators.

However, there are many ways to stay safe online. Make sure you do not
reveal your email and internet accounts to anyone. You should also not post
details about yourself such as full name, address, phone number and other
personal information on the net. This will make it easy for strangers to find you.

Thus, we should use the internet in moderation.  We should not let the
internet dominate our lives.  We should spend quality time with family, and
indulge in playing outdoor games.  Too much of anything is never good for a
healthy mind and soul.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has infected thousands of

people around the world. Anyone can contract the coronavirus, which causes
the disease COVID-19, although certain groups of people have a higher risk of
developing serious complications from the virus and requiring hospitalization.
Many people who get the coronavirus will experience cold or flulike symptoms,
and some people who get the virus will be completely asymptomatic. There are
certain things I did to protect myself from the virus.
First of all, I stayed home at all times, to avoid being exposed to the
virus. I washed my hands frequently either with soap and water or a hand
sanitizer. This is still the best way to prevent getting the coronavirus. The things
you should do to protect yourself from the coronavirus are things you should do
every day. The number one thing you can do to prevent any respiratory illness is
to practice good personal hygiene. This would kill the COVID-19 virus that
may be on my hands. I stood one metre apart from others when I went to
grocery shops.
I also wore a mask to prevent myself from breathing in liquid droplets
which may contain the COVID-19 virus. The Ministry of Health still
recommends that everyone wear when out in public, such as at the grocery store
or bank. This is less to protect yourself and more to protect other people from
you, in case you unknowingly have the virus and have the potential to transmit
it. In addition to your physical health, you should take care of your mental
health. High stress levels can take a toll on your immune system, which is the
opposite of what you want if you're trying to avoid the coronavirus.
During the Movement Control Order (MCO), I used the mobile phone
and social media to keep in touch with my friends. Since we were not
encouraged to go out, we messaged each other to discuss homework, online
classes and current issues. Nearly every state and local government has
published guidelines of what to do to slow the spread of the coronavirus. These
include social distancing, restricting what kinds of businesses can operate and
what kinds of activities such as outdoor exercise or private gatherings are
allowed. It has been a challenging time indeed.

Title : Famous Tourist Attraction in Malaysia.

If you are tired of hustle and bustle of city and need to go somewhere to
relax your mind, you don’t need to go far. If you stay in Johor or somewhere
nears the Southern part of Malaysia, it is time for a trip to Kota Tinggi. It is
among the popular tourist destination in Malaysia.
Kota Tinggi is one of the district and also one of the small towns in
Johor. To get to Kota Tinggi, from Johor bahru it is on the road to Mersing.
Kota Tinggi also can be reached by ferry from Changi terminal in Singapore.
Kota Tinggi actually are known as historical town where it is believe that the
Sultanate of Johore was established here. There are many historical tombs can
be visited around Kota Tinggi. Unfortunately, the town is of little interest
because there are few shopping complex can be seen in the town. The most
popular spot for tourist and also to the locals is Kota Tinggi Waterfalls at
Lombong. It is located at the base of Muntahak Mountain.
At the Waterfalls area, there is a great area place for family picnics. The
place used to gets crowded especially on weekends. Most peoples found the
scenery to be perfect place to get together around not just because of the water
cascading down but also a view of Muntahak mountain at a distance. Althought
the park area are relatively small, it has a gigantic car park. You have to be
prepared to walk. The walking distance from car park to main waterfalls area
takes about one kilometre. Even though it took half an hour to walk, on the way
to the park, there are many food outlets and also a river along the sides that
looks clean and free of rubbish. If you planning to spend a night, there are
Swiss-style chalets near the falls. It is equipped with cooking facilities and also
camping grounds if you need more adventures.
I found that there are picturesque secenery at the waterfalls. Kota Tinggi
Waterfalls is a perfect and wonderful place for quick getaway. It has adequate
facilities for visitors but however, natural beauty of some parts is spoilt by
resort development and also artificial landscaping.
Kota Tinggi will definitely a famous tourist attraction to be visited by
locals and tourist in Johor, Malaysia.

Last weekend, my family and I had dinner at Ala Cathay restaurant.

According to his sister, this place serves Malaysian food. At first I hesitate to
go as it was located at Jalan Ampang and on weekend it is usually traffic jam.
Thank god it has air-conditioned. According to most people, the restaurant is a
favourite dining spot for locals and tourists who visit Kuala Lumpur.
Upon our arrival, Waiters and waitresses were very polite and greeted
their customers warmly at the entrance. After that, customers ushered to their
table and I can’t forget how comfy the cushioned seats. Next, the low-pitched
music make customers feel soothed.
Most outstanding feature is its environment. The restaurant was
surrounded by greeneries around. Making it cooling and peaceful, that made me
misses my hometown so much. It almost felt like you were having picnic at the
Garden. Generally the restaurant was clean and very hygienic
My parents and I love this restaurant so much that we dine at this
restaurant thrice. But sometimes the food took long time to be prepared. They
served after about forty minutes. Maybe there’s a shortage of staff. Despite that
the restaurant was constantly filled with customers and there were variety of
tasty food that is served. However they were little parking space provided by
management, on weekends and public holiday’s customers park their cars along
busy main road
I will definitely recommend this restaurant to relatives and friends
because prices of food are reasonable. Anyone looking for comfort, kind
treatment this place would be the best food outlet for you.

Question 5

A Narrow Escape
I still can’t forget how terrible the experience was. I should have listened
to my dad. There was a huge three-acre pond just a few kilometers from where
we stay. Since moving into our new home in the countryside, my brother, Jim
and I used to often sneak out to the pond where we would meet another friend.
Dad had warned us not to venture anywhere near the pond area especially after
a friend had made it known to him that an alligator had been spotted there. We
took no heed of his advice though. This was our favourite hideout and we were
certainly not going to give it up.

On this particular afternoon, the three of us had just finished swimming.

Jim and Syed were reluctantly making their way towards the spot where they
had left their clothes. I stayed back and was bathing in the waist-deep water
when I suddenly became aware of ripples forming in the surface of the water. I
cocked my head and looked in the direction. My eyes caught a motion in the
water. A log, I thought. Then I saw it-its snout and its two reptilian eyes. `Jim...'
I screamed with all my might. Jim turned his head in my direction and
immediately recognized the danger. 'Get out of the water Jeff. Hurry. It's just
behind you.'

I waded clumsily in the water. After a few stumbles and fumbles, I

reached the edge of the pond. I looked over my shoulder. Moving swiftly
towards me was an enormous alligator. I froze. Then, suddenly I felt a searing
pain in my leg. Meanwhile, Jim and Syed screamed and started throwing stones
at the alligator and managed to distract it. The alligator went for them now. As
it opened its jaws, I could see its jagged teeth. I tried to move but a stabbing
pain shot though me. I slumped onto the ground, sprawled in a pool of blood.

Meanwhile our screams were heard by two hunters who were in the
vicinity. On seeing the alligator, one of them fired a shot in the air. It had the
desired effect. The alligator stopped in his tracks, retreated a few steps and
slithered hurriedly into the water. Then, I passed out.

When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a totally unfamiliar

environment. The smell of antiseptics told me that I was in hospital. I later
learnt from my mother that I was rushed to the casualty ward where I was
treated for puncture wounds on my right ankle and a long gash which required
fifty-six stitches. Mum reminded me how fortunate I was to have escaped from
the jaws of the alligator. It was a narrow escape.
