Dear Mum,
I am just writing to tell you how much I appreciate the money you have sent me, and to tell you ho# I
am getting on in my first term at this school. I really enjoyed myself here. I think I’ll buy some new
clothes with the money you’ve sent me. Everything costs a lot here, and I am saving to buy a coat for

SMK Aman Jaya celebrated the school’s annual event recently, the
School Canteen Day, and it was a huge success. The event was hosted
by the Students Committee as their annual event organisation as
well. 1. H The principle, Mr Hazim gave the opening speech.
Everyone in school was busy preparing for the big day. 2. C All
committee members reported for duty punctually and they worked two-
hour shifts so that the students do not miss too much of their
subjects at class. Other volunteering students were assigned to hang
the banners and decoration at the stall.
3.A .
4.F Most of the societies’ stalls had games, delicious but unique
food and drinks, and even games! The English Language stall had a
guessing game, that became a surprise hit with the students. 5. D
Throughout the School Canteen Day, the stalls were always busy
entertaining many students and teachers. The participants enjoyed
the game at the stalls, and some even complimented the organisers
for a smooth and systematic operation.
After three hours of non-stop activities during the School Canteen
Day, the event came to an end. At the end of the event, there was a
prize-giving ceremony where prizes were given out to the stalls that
had best food, best game, and best service. Then, all the students
stayed back to help with the clean-up operation. 6. E Everyone went

Money has been a part of human history for almost 3,000 years. Money
is used for buying or selling goods, for measuring value and for
storing wealth.1 B
In primitive societies, a system of barter was used 2.A. Somebody
could exchange a sheep, for example, for anything in the market-
place that they considered to be of equal value. 3. C People needed
a more practical system of exchange, and various money systems
developed based on goods which the members of a society recognised
as having value. Cattle, grain, teeth, shells, feathers, skulls,
salt, elephant tusks and tobacco have all been used.
4.D This is because, when made into coins, they were
portable, durable, recognisable and divisible into larger and
smaller units of value. A coin is a piece of metal, usually disc-
shaped, which bears lettering, designs or numbers showing its value.
5.E However, most modem coins are based on face of value the value
that
governments choose to give them, irrespective of the actual mental
content. Coins have been made of gold (Au), nickel (Ni), silver
(Ag), copper (Cu), aluminium (Al), lead (PI), rinc (Zn), plastic,
and in China even from presses tea leaves.
Most governments now issue paper money in the form of note, which
are “really “promises to pay”. 6. H Cheques, banker’s cards, and
credit cards are being used increasingly and it is possible to
imagine a world where “money” in the form of coins and paper
currency will no longer be used. Even today, in the United States,
many places especially petrol stations will not accept cash at night
for security reasons.

The Young and Passionate
With his khaki pants and black sweater, Irfan Khairi looks like any
other young man on the street. He is boyish and hardly looks like a
millionaire. Irfan's success story is something many of us dream of
but few attain.
He set up an online business when he was 22 and reaped his first
million three years later. If people are amazed at his achievement,
Irfan hardly thinks so. In fact, the foundation of his success was
laid when he turned 18.
"My goal was to make my first million when I am 30. So I read
motivation books and attended seminars and talks. Whatever I have
achieved now is the result of hard work."
Irfan graduated in multimedia design from Staffordshire University
in the United Kingdom. While working in a multimedia company, he
decided to set up a part-time online business designing book covers,
posters and banners. A year later, he decided to pursue it full time
from home.
"Initially, there was no money to be made. I had only three
customers that first year. But business soon grew. Now I have about
40 customers a month. There are no limits or boundaries to online
business. You just have to understand the business and know how to
market it."

In my shopping trip with my sister today I saw so many lovely
branded wallets selling at 50% discount. I know I should not buy it.
But, I simply cannot resist a good buy. I bought the wallet costing
RM80. Now, I really regret buying it because I realised that I had
actually overspent. I won't have enough money to pay for my school
trip at the end of this month and mum has said that I can only go if
I save for it. Anyone interested to buy it from me?

Mode of Transportation of Form 2 SMK X
A survey was conducted among the Form Two students of SMK X on how
they travelled to school everyday. Based on the survey results, the
four most common methods of travelling to school are by car, school
bus, bicycle and foot.
The results show that a majority of students'travel to school by
car. The second most used methocf of travelling to school is by
school bus. The third is walking from home. Lastly, students who
cycle to school rank the lowest.
Overall, more than half of the students in the survey rely on some
form of motorised transportation. If more students were to walk or

the school area.

7 December, 1941. A day I will always remember. It was supposed to
be an ordinary day onboard the USS Nevada, a battleship.
I was getting ready for my routine duty of preparing breakfast for
the crew when a huge explosion shook the entire ship. Alarms went
on, and every sailor went into overdrive.
•
w "All hartds to battle stations! We are under attack! This is not a
drill!" This was real. The war had come to us. I had just joined the
navy. I only had my training behind me, and I prayed hard that it
was enough to allow me perform my duties well.
We took a major beating. In order to prevent the ship from sinking,
my captain ran the ship aground off Hospital Point.
Even though it was a terrifying day, we managed to pull through.
None of the sailors got serious injury. Three days after the attack,
the ship was repaired and back at sea, ready to serve.
