How to Be a Wise Shopper
Most people go on a shopping spree whenever there is a sale on. Yet, there are others who
like shopping so much that they frequent shopping malls practically every week. Some shop
and shop when they have received their paycheck. There is a minority who would shop
whenever they feel depressed or upset over certain things. They believe that shopping takes
their mind off the matter that is bugging them. There are others who are very careful about
their money and they only shop before any festive seasons, like Chinese New Year or Hari
Raya Aidilfitri.
Be a smart shopper! Don't be caught or rather influenced by advertisements over the mass
media. Advertisements are aplenty these days. Advertisements can be misleading for they
only show the goodness of the advertised products. In most cases, advertisements do not
give consumers accurate information of the products. Very often, consumers are led into
buying products, which they later find not worth the money spent.
Always prepare a shopping list before you go shopping. This is the shopping list of the things
that you need to buy and not what you want. Plan ahead on what you want to buy, where
to buy and when to buy. In this way, if you follow the shopping list strictly, it helps you to
buy only your needs. You also save the time going round the shopping mall, thinking of what
to buy. Moreover, you will only spend within your budget.
In order to get your money's worth for the goods, you need to buy or on a tight budget, you
need to do some research and compare prices. Look up the prices of goods in leaflets
distributed by shopping malls. In trying to buy goods at the lowest price, do remember not
to compromise on the quality. Do check the expiry dates of goods and make sure that tins
are not dented.
In order to be a wise shopper, you need to practise self-control, self-discipline and take
responsibility for your spending habits. These values are important for you as you don't
want to end up buying things that you don't need.
