THE ROYAL'S

FAMILY
TRADITIONS AND
CUSTOMS
Presentation by Hmelnytska Olexandra
WHAT ARE A family tradition is an activity

FAMILY
or pattern of behavior that
reflects a family's values,
interests, or beliefs. Once

TRADITIONS? established, it will hopefully be

passed down through the
generations. It represents your
specific family unit and is like
your own family culture.
THE BRITISH
The British royal family comprises King
Charles III and his close relations. There is
no strict legal or formal definition of who is

ROYAL FAMILY
or is not a member, although the Royal
Household has issued different lists
outlining who is a part of the royal family.
THE ROYAL FAMILY HAS ITS
OWN TRADITIONS.
Pasta, potatoes and rice never appear on the dinner menu. The
Queen clearly does not like starch. Her Highness also despises
the smell of garlic. Therefore, naturally, it cannot be used in any
of the dishes. Family members avoid shellfish when eating out
because they don't risk getting food poisoning. In the same way,
they refuse raw red meat.

Formal attire is required for dinner. If you show

up in jeans and a t-shirt, chances are you won't
be invited back.
TRADITIONS
Napkins must be folded in half after use. No one wants to see your
dirty napkin, even if it belongs to a member of the royal family.

The Queen's Breakfast menu remains the same every day. The
queen is a simple woman by nature. And ordinary women like a
good old breakfast consisting of nuts, dried fruits and corn flakes.

When the queen finishes eating, everyone finishes eating. At a

royal dinner, you always want one eye on the food and the other
on the queen. If Her Highness places the bag on the table, you
will have five minutes to take the last bite and leave.
MORE INTERESTING
TRADITIONS
Prince Philip must follow the Queen. He
should always be two steps behind his lady in
public.

Ballots for members of the royal family are

prohibited.

Christmas must be celebrated in the family

circle. The family usually gathers at
Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth's private
country estate, but Will and Kate managed to
sneak out to the Middleton residence once.
MORE INTERESTING
TRADITIONS
Maintain eye contact during a firm
handshake.

Members of the royal family do not bow.

Only married women can wear tiaras.

Fur is prohibited. There have been several

misses on this point, but no one in the royal
family can wear fur under the proclamation of
Edward III.
When tea is drunk in the royal family,

INTERESTING the handle of the bowl should be held

with the thumb and forefinger, and the

bottom with the middle finger. In
addition, ladies can take sips from only
one place so as not to contaminate the
entire cup with lipstick.
YET ANOTHER
CURIOS FACT
Once, the Queen did break two rules at one
garden party at Buckingham Palace. Thousands
of people are invited to such events, but only
some of them, according to the protocol, can
afford a short dialogue with Her Majesty. It is
forbidden to touch the queen or give her
anything at all. She greeted Elizabeth II, handed
her a bouquet and complimented her pink suit.
The strangest thing is that Elizaveta stopped,
accepted everything and thanked her, although
before that the guard warned Laura that the
initiative was useless - the queen never breaks the
rules, and the most that she, Laura, can do is hand
the bouquet into the hands of the monarch's
assistant.
