ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First of all, I would like to thank Assist. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Tung and the English department

administrators worked so hard together to deliver us such a practical and interesting subject. I have to

say that Regular Professional Training was a great opportunity for me to gain so many valuable

experiences and knowledge that are useful for my future career.

Besides, It will be a huge mistake if I forget to mention the services of Mr. Nhan and all assistants in

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education's publishing house who were always willing to support me

during my pre-internship period. Without their help, I would never be able to complete all the tasks

during my pre-internship period.

ABSTRACT

I believe that learning and practice must go together. For this reason, students who live in an ever-

changing world like me always seek an opportunity to put my knowledge and skills learned from

school into practice. Therefore, it is advised that besides studying students should never stop

practicing and observing in order to gain more practical experience and adapt to the working

environment so that they can be well-prepared for their future careers.

This semester, I was given a chance to integrate into the real working environment, apply the

knowledge at the university to reality and improve my translation skills, computer skills, and

teamwork skills for regular professional practice. During two months of observing at Ho Chi Minh

University of Education's publishing house, I observed and was given some practical tasks to compete

with other colleagues.

I participated in an orientation meeting with Mr. Nhan and other colleagues in the department to get to

know each other, to learn some basic rules in the publishing house. I was also given some documents

on the process of editing a book before publishing and was assigned some basic tasks related to

editing and translating to get used to the working process. Therefore, I have a valuable opportunity to

use my English and computer skills to finish different tasks.

The pre-internship process was such a huge challenge for me at first. After I finish it, however, I

become more confident about myself as I have improved a lot in many fields.

INTRODUCTION

The goal of univsity and college education is not only to introduce students to the theories from books

but to train them in a real work environment to create a new workforce for society. Therefore, Ho Chi

Minh University of Education develop its curriculum by including two internships’ courses and one

pre-internship course. These courses are essential for students as they give them the opportunity to

apply their knowledge to work and to adapt to the real working environment.

In this report, I will summarize what I observed and learned during the pre-internship at Ho Chi Minh

City University of Education’s Publishing House. After that, I will give a self-evaluation about how

much I have improved since I observed at the Publishing House. Finally, I will include a

recommendation for students who will enroll in this course in the future.

CONCLUSION

Regular Professional Training has provided me with a lot of valuable knowledge. I not only have a

chance to apply the theory of university learning into practice, but also received many lessons and

new knowledge from the real working environment. The pre-internship was really challenging for me,

but it helps me to find out all of my strengths and weaknesses. As a result, I know what I should

improve so that I can perform better in my future career.

The time I spent observing at the Publishing House of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education

was really valuable to me. I have been given the opportunity complete many different tasks.

Furthermore, Publishing House is a professional and friendly working environment. During my time

observing here, the supervisor and my colleagues are very supportive. Without them, I surely could

not complete all the assigned tasks. I learn from them the seriousness and dedication of the work as

well as their enthusiasm and friendliness. I also learn from them other valuable skills such as effective

teamwork skills, time management skills, and computer skill. I believe these skills are extremely

essential for both my studies and my future career.

In conclusion, I can learn a lot from this pre-internship, and I am glad because I tried my best to

attend all the online observing sessions as well as finished all the assigned tasks from the supervisor

on time.

EVALUATION

I give the self-assessment below to verify myself after two months observing at the Ho Chi Minh City

University of Education’s Publishing House.

STRENGTHS AND IMPROVED SKILLS

- My computer skills have been improved more as all the observing sessions are conducted

online, I have more chance to apply my computer skills to complete all the assigned tasks.

- My English reading skill has also been improved as I have to read a lot of English materials

and complete my English book’s editing tasks.

- My translation skill has been improved as I was assigned to finish translating tasks during my

observing period.

- I have better observation skills as book editing tasks require a high level of attention and

concentration from the editor.

WEAKNESSES

- Communication skill and teamwork skill are my biggest weaknesses. This semester, the pre-

internship is conducted online so that it is difficult for me to interact with other colleagues

and the supervisor. However, in the future, I will learn more to overcome my weaknesses.
11

RECOMMENDATION

Regular Professional Training is very challenging for any students. However, I believe that there is

always the way to overcome difficulty and get a good result. Here are my recommendations.

- Carefully prepare your CV. You should include your skills and experiences that are relevant

to your studying field in your CV. This would increase your probability to get approved by a

company

- Always be on time. Your supervisors will arrange different meetings for you to observe at

their company. It is necessary for you to arrange your schedule carefully so that you can

complete your duties at the company.

- Always try your best to finish the assigned tasks. Beside observing at the company,

supervisors will assign you with tasks for you to learn more as well as to applied what you

observed at their company. Therefore, when you are assigned a task, you should take them

seriously and finish them before due date.

- Always be polite and supportive to your supervisors and more importantly, your colleagues at

company. You can not complete all the tasks by yourself. Having good relationships with

your colleagues can bring you more benefits than you can imagine. As they have more

experience in working environment and they know how to solve problems, they can support

you with your difficulties during your pre-internship.
