Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the (Computer System Servicing(CSS) Grade-12) Self Learning Module

on (Backup and Restore Files in Windows 7) !
This Self Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by
educators from Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge
Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership
with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis
N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies
that will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

LESSON

HOW TO CREATE A BACKUP IN WINDOWS 7

Once you set up Windows Backup, it keeps track of the files and folders that are
new or modified and adds them to your backup. A system image includes Windows
7 and your system settings, programs, and files. You can use it to restore the
content of your computer if your hard drive crashes

Where are backup files stored in windows 7

The File and Folder backup is stored in the WIN7 folder, whereas the System
Image backup is stored in the Windows Image Backup folder. File permissions on
all folders and files are restricted to administrators, who have full control, and to
the user who configured the backup, who has read-only permissions by default.
The Best way to backup files
The 3-2-1 rule for backup: three copies of your data two local (on different devices)
and one off-site.
1. The original data on your computer

Advantages  Faster backups  Faster and  Faster restore
 Less storage simpler restores  Only needs the
space used than incremental last full backup
 No duplicate files backup set to restore

WR AP UP
BACK UP AND RESTORE FILES IN WINDOWS 7
Backup and Restore (formerly Windows Backup and Restore Center) is a
component of Microsoft Windows introduced in Windows Vista and included in
later versions that allow users to create backups and restore from backups created
earlier. It is a replacement of NTBackup, which was included in previous Windows
versions. It became a deprecated feature in Windows 8 before being completely
removed in Windows 8.1 in favor of File History. However, in Windows 10, it was re-
incorporated into the operating system.
Backup and Restore supports two different types of backup: file backup and
system image.
 File backups are saved to ZIP files. Two methods of file backup are supported.
The first, normal backup, stores everything selected for backup. The
second, incremental backup stores only files that are changed after a previous
backup.
 The other method of backup, system image, is a disk image of the backed up
system saved block by block in a VHD file (versus file by file in the file backup
and NTBackup). Block-based backup is more efficient at performing
subsequent differential backups, as only the blocks that have changed need to
be backed up.
