Ans: The son remembered that his parents used to bring him to the fields to thin corn when
he was only six years old. He also remembered that once his father made him a wooden
plough which he lost in a furrow and started weeping. These were good memories.

Ans. A Martian virus can be very dangerous. It can change the identity of human beings in a
mysterious way. It can make the earthly people dark and golden eyed. They start looking taller
and smarter than before. It can also harm their memories.
Q. 4: What climate or circumstances did Bittering family face on Mars? OR What were the
weather conditions that the Bitterings faced on Mars?
Ans. They faced a severe climate on Mars. The wind at day time and the fog at night badly
influenced the earth settlement. The wind seemed to flake away their identities and draw out
their souls from them. The paint of their house peeled away and all the boards were warped
out of their shape.

earth? **
Ans. The news of war on the earth gave them a heavy shock. Harry wanted to strike Laura. They
thought that they had been stranded on Mars forever as all the rockets had been blown in the
war. Sweat poured from Harry’s face, hands and body. He was drenched in the hotness of his
fear.

and got his face washed, gave him food and taught him good manners.

Ans. The boy’s face was dirty and unclean. He was looking very poor by his appearance. The
woman felt pity on him and wanted to wash his face to give him a better look before
letting him go. She wanted to show her motherly affection to him.
Q. 4: Why did the boy (Roger) not run away from the house of the woman?*****
Ans. The boy did not run away from the house of the woman because she had treated him
kindly. He was impressed by her kind behaviour. So, he did not want to lose the trust of
the woman. He was sure that she was a harmless woman.

Ans. People generally like the scandalous discussion. They like to see others being degraded
and insulted. So they thought that Hubert was a liar. They made fun of his innocence to
amuse themselves. Hubert’s simplicity and poverty also became the cause of his insult.

Ans. The Mayor did not believe Mr. Hubert for two reasons. Number one he believed that Mr.
