1. Summarize the early invasions in England in about 100-120 words.

In 43 AD, Britain became part of the Roman Empire. The Romans stayed
in Britain for over 300 years. After the Romans left, the Anglo-Saxons
invaded Britain. They were from the Netherlands, Germany, and
Denmark. They pushed the Celts into Scotland, Wales and Ireland. In
1066 William, the Duke of Normandy, invaded England. At the Battle of
Hastings he defeated King Harold and became king. The Norman
Conquest created the English language.
2. Summarize the story of Beowulf in about 100-120 words.
First Battle: Grendle
Hrothgar, king of the Moors, builds a hall for his people called Heorot. A
grim spirit called Grendle attacks the hall and devours many of
Hrothgar's warriors while they sleep.
Second Battle: Grendel’s Mother
After Grendel's death, Beowulf and Hrothgar and his men track
Grendle's mother to her lair under an eerie lake. There they engage in
fierce combat in a cavern containing the remains of many men that the
two have killed. Beowul is saved from his opponent's attack by his
armor and beheads her with a mighty sword.
Third Battle: The dragon
In Beowulf, a slave steals a golden cup from the lair of an unnamed
dragon (sometimes referred to as Sua) When the dragon sees that the
cup has been stolen, it leaves its cave in arage, burning up everything in
sight. Beowolf and his warriors come to fight the dragon, but he dies
from the wounds he has received.
