LITERATURE REVIEW

1. “Students’ Perceptions of Online Learning: A Comparative Study” by Karl L. Smart


and James J. Cappel aimed to study students’ perceptions of integrating online
components in two undergraduate business courses where students completed online
learning modules prior to class discussion. The data for this study are based on
students’ experiences taking an online learning unit offered by the Information
Technology Training Initiative (ITTI) of the Michigan Virtual University. the overall
sample was fairly evenly distributed by gender (54 percent females and 46 percent
males). Chi-square tests was used in this study. The findings suggests that the e-
learning was so much easier than other sources.

2. Asif Irshad Khan, Noor-ul-Qayyum, Mahaboob Sharief Shaik, Abdullah Maresh


Ali1, Ch.Vijaya Bebi (2012) made a “Study on Blended Learning Process in
Education Context”. This paper Discusses about Blended learning and its assessment
Techniques, also, discussed issues in blended learning Environment along with its
advantages. It can also be defined as the integration of Various learning activities like
online and face-to-face learning. This study concludes that the charm of blended
Learning approach lies in the adaptation of technology Aided learning methods in
addition to the existing Traditional based learning charm of blended learning

3. Mohammed Nasser Hassan Ja’ashan (2015), the title of the study was Perceptions
and Attitudes towards Blended Learning for English Courses. The paper identifies the
perceptions and attitudes that blended learning provides to students’ learning
Experiences as well as to investigate negative impressions in blended English courses
from the learners’ Perception. The author conducted a survey through a questionnaire
at University of Bisha. There are 130 Respondents enrolled in English department.
The questionnaire was designed to measure the students’ Perceptions and attitudes
towards blended learning. This study concludes that in general the students’
perceptions and attitudes Towards blended learning were positive in terms of the three
domains in the questionnaire. This study also concludes that blended learning is as
effective as face-to-face learning in Developing and improving knowledge and skills.

4. Samuel Adu Gyamfi (2015) the title of the study was “Students’ perception of
blended learning environment”. This study was conducted to assess students’
perception of blended learning environment. This study was designed to ensure that
the benefits of both online and face-to-face learning environment. The study used
formative experiment with 75 first year university students. The findings showed
positive perceptions of student on the blended learning Environment. This finding
notwithstanding, the use of web-based materials for blended learning programmes
was problematic giving that some students encountered probing conclusion, although
the findings from this study showed the transformative potential of the Intervention,
there could be an issue with the generalization of the findings to all courses in the
University setting.

5. “Presence and perceived learning in different higher education blended learning


environments” by Wan Zah Wan Ali (2015). A total of 150 responses were collected
from students pursuing higher education in University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. The
aim of the study is to measure third generation students’ level of adaptation of
blended learning platforms in distance education. The research method was
qualitative, and the data were Collected by personal interview. The data Were
analysed using qualitative content analysis. The result shows that the blended
Learning environment constructed by technology-mediated learning creates
challenges That must be taken into consideration when planning and implementing
blended Teaching and learning.
6. Learners’ Perceptions of Blended Learning and the Roles and Interaction of f2f and
Online Learning was a study made by Huang, Qiang (2016). The present study aims
to probe into learners’ perceptions of blended learning in relation. Questionnaires
were used in the study to Examine the attitudes of 296 university students towards a
blended English course learned at the university. The results showed that students
were generally positive about Blended learning and they also acknowledged the
interdependencies between f2f learning and online learning in the blended English
course. The Findings of the research shed light on how f2f and online learning
interplay with each other in the blended learning context.

7. In the study titled Students’ perceptions toward online learning and face-to-face
learning courses by S Bali and M C Liu (2018) examined the issues of student
perception toward online learning and face-to-face learning in the context of social
presence, social interaction, and satisfaction in Indonesia Open University, Taiwan
branch (n=107). The comparison of the online group and the face-to-face group
conducted to explore student-learning perceptions regardless of the course delivery
method and the online environment. The result of this study indicates that face-to-face
learning perception was higher than online learning in term of social presence, social
interaction, and satisfaction. However, there is no statistically significant difference in
learning preference found among level of student.

8. “Student Preference and Perception towards Online Education in Hyderabad City” by


Mr. Anjum Pasha, Jarupla Gorya (2019) aimed to know most preferred way of
education reasons why people preferring online education over offline education. The
geographical scope of study is confined to the city of Hyderabad. This is based on
questionnaire to find out their customer perception towards online education the
various elements. Primary data was either through a direct communication with
respondent or questionnaire. For this research secondary data was collected through
various sources like, Websites, Journals, Magazines, Articles, Books and Project
reports. Most of people in our research are aware about online education but there are
certain people who still unaware about online education. In this research most of
people preferred mode of education is online/e-learning/virtual way and only 26%
people preferred offline education.
9. Dr.R.Jayanthi (2019) had made research on “A study about blended learning-Its
importance and concept”. The aim of the study is to analyse the concept, need,
challenges and threats in blended learning. A total of 250 higher secondary school
students participated in the study, immediately Following the blended course study.
Data were gathered using both quantitative and Qualitative research techniques such
as a questionnaire. Five main scales were identified to assess the Effectiveness of the
blended training process. In addition, a scale of satisfaction was Included to measure
the overall student's perception of the course effectiveness. The Findings indicated
that the Blended learning provides flexibility and removes various time horizons.

10. Students’ Perception of Online Learning during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Survey


Study of IT Students was by D. A. Akuratiya, D. N. R. Meddage (2020) aimed to
study students’ perception of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic period
at the ATI in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka. Out of 130 participants, 62.5% had little or no
experience with online learning prior to the coronavirus outbreak, 54.7% preferred
blended learning of traditional learning and online learning. students perceive online
learning as effective as face-to-face learning, enjoyable, able to learn at own pace,
easy access to online material, and active participation. 82.9% of students agreed to
integrate online learning into their course in the future and overall perception
regarding online learning during COVID19 is 79.7%. In conclusion, the current
survey displays a favourable perception of online learning among IT students.

11. “The trends of blended learning in South East Asia” by Ford Lumban Goal and
Fonny Hutagalung (2020). A total of 389 responses were collected from students
pursuing higher education in University of Malaysia, UCSI University, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. The aim of the study is to address Confits of multiple technologies
in blended learning. The research method was qualitative, and the data were Collected
by three focus group interview and questionnaire. The data Were analysed using
descriptive statistics. The results showed that robotics training influence creativity and
learning in physic among the participants.
12. The study titled “blended learning - a study on student’s perception about suitability
of the framework for higher education” by Dr. Pallavi Ughade (2020) has aimed to
find out the perception of students towards Blended Learning. Only primary data was
used for this study. Survey method was employed for this research. The researcher
has chosen 75 PG students for the study. Structured questionnaire is designed to
collect the information through google forms. Google form link were sent to 120
students and 60 copies of questionnaire were distributed manually. The researcher
found that median is 4 for all the structured questions used in the questionnaire.

is a suitable and effective method for the better learning in higher education.
13. An online self-report survey by Felix Bast (2021) titled “Perception of Online
Learning among Students from India set against the Pandemic” was conducted to
assess students’ perception of online learning in this changed situation in comparison
with traditional classroom learning. The sample size of this study was 1,318 members.
The study analysed eight independent variables on student’s perception towards
online learning, viz., gender, nature of the settlement, economic background,
religiosity, primary electronic device, age, and educational institution, with each of
these variables forming respective research hypotheses. Results revealed several
exciting facets of students’ perceptions. Receptiveness towards online learning was
significantly higher for students from urban areas compared with rural areas.

14. Hadiyanto, Failasofah, Armiwati, Mukhlash Abrar and Yulhenli Thabran (2021)
had made research on “Student’s practices of 21st century skills between conventional
learning and blended learning”. The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of
blended learning in course application with the goal of optimizing student’s skills. A
total of 160 higher class students of University of Jambi, Indonesia participated in the
study, immediately Following the blended course assessment. Data were gathered
using both quantitative and Qualitative research techniques such as a questionnaire.
Five main scales were identified to assess the Effectiveness of the blended training
process. In addition, a scale of satisfaction was Included to measure the overall
student’s perception of the course effectiveness. The Findings indicated that Blended
learning is the most effective tool for engagement of both students and teachers in
learning platforms.
15. The study by Alma Sri Andriyani, Maulina, Syarif Amin, Rahmat Nasrullah and
Asdar, Andi Hamsiah (2022) titled “Students’ Perception in Learning English
through Blended Learning” aims to investigate how the blended learning process is
operated and to determine students’ perceptions in learning English through blended
learning. This study used observation, questionnaire, and interview to collect data
from the purposively selected students. This study indicated that learning English
through blended learning showed positive behaviour like attending the class regularly
and enthusiastically. Besides, students felt comfortable and enjoyed learning English,
showing their English language skills and favourable learning in the form of well-
implemented blended learning.
