The heart of our continuous solid-liquid extraction is the percolation carousel extractor.
The process works in so-called counter current, i.e., a continuous flow of liquid is fed in
counter current to the flow of solids and the resulting mixture is recirculated through
the bed of solids. The carousel extractor can be used universally and is used to extract
valuable ingredients from solids or to remove unwanted accompanying substances. This
technology, which has been tried and tested worldwide, guarantees a high level of
functionality with little input of maintenance. The continuously working carousel
extractor can be used for a wide range of extraction goods. These include, for example,
products from the areas of the pharmaceutical industry, for the extraction of API's
(active pharmaceutical ingredients), in the food industry to produce ready-to-drink teas
or for the vegetable oil industry for the extraction of vegetable oil from oilseeds and
many more.
Process Description
The carousel extractor itself consists of a closed, fixed main apparatus in which the
rotating rotor with approx. 9-12 cells is located. This cell rotor is limited at the bottom
by a fixed sieve bottom, which in turn serves as a support surface for the product. The
cells are filled one after the other at a defined position with the exact volume of solids
via a heated solids storage silo.
The solvent/water is continuously and evenly distributed from above onto the product
bed by 8-11 pumps in counter-current to the direction of rotation of the rotor. So that
the fresh solvent/water always comes in contact with the most exhaustively extracted

product. At the end of a rotation comes the drip zone in which there is no longer any
percolation. The excess solvent/water drips off here before the entire biomass falls
through the discharge chute into the ejection container, which then ensures a
continuous feed of the biomass into a screw conveyor system.
In terms of control technology, the entire process is implemented via a PLC, Siemens S 7
1500. Operating parameters such as rotor speeds and extraction temperatures can be
entered via an HMI and are also displayed there so the operator as a full view of the
process.
The dimensions given here in the sketch only refer to the diameter and not to the height.

In order to be able to create a reliable offer, extraction tests must be carried out in
advance and a pre-engineering should have been carried out. We are happy to support
you in this interesting project.
