Coaching Philosophy

Being a coach that is looked up to is my main goal. The coach that knows the game, his

players, and their values. The coach that is only about winning and does not care for their players

is not the type of coach I will be. I will get to know my players to help make them better and

resulting in making myself and the whole team better.

I will allow my athletes to put their own spin on the game they’re playing, there’ll still be

expectations to follow so they don’t ruin it for everyone else but by not having them be robots in

the game is necessary for being a better athlete. My goal is making my athletes better people

over all not just better at the sport. Teaching them respect and how to present themselves so they

don’t ruin their name by mistake. One way to build my athletes up will be not having them

retaliate if something happens during a game, the second person is the one who always gets

caught never the first player.

Having my players do team bonding exercises to make them better people is key. Giving

my athletes a proper nutrition guide and not over working them to the point of fatigues will help

them succeed. If they get hurt, having them evaluated by the trainer and them determining their

level of play will come from that. I will not force an athlete to feel like they need to play through

an injury and risk getting hurt any worse. When an athlete makes a mistake, instead of making
them feel bad for doing it, I’ll help talk them through what they did and what they can do to fix

it. Making the athlete feel worse for making a mistake isn’t the correct way to handle it, that isn’t

positive for the athlete.

I will be the coach who tells their athletes to play other sports in the off-season. For

example, playing football in the fall, wrestling in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring, makes

that student a better athlete overall than the student who only plays one sport all year. Creating

in-game situations will help the athletes be better prepared for the games. Teaching my athletes

life skills like working well with others will help them be better with their careers in the future. I

will ask past coaches and other coaches ways to help make my athletes better people and players

overall, I will also ask the players to come up with goals to help themselves succeed in life and in

the sport.

I will be a coach that cares for his athletes, as people and players, making sure they

succeed with becoming better people is the main goal, winning is a plus. I will let the athletes tell

me ideas that they think will work and their ideas of different plays that we do so that they feel

included and have a say in the practices and games. Again, being the coach that is looked up to is

the goal for myself.
