"Japan Strengthens Industrial HR"

Indonesia needs increasingly qualified human resources to accelerate industrial

development. Global companies and investors are expected to help improve human resource
capabilities as capital flows continue to enter the country.

Minister of Industry Saleh Husin expressed this when he received the Kansai Economic
Federation (Kankeiren), Japan at the Ministry of Industry, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/3). The delegation
of economic and business organizations was led by the Chairman of Kankeiren, Shosuke Mori
who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kansai Electric Power Co Inc. "Japan has
been a partner of Indonesia in spurring the domestic industry. They have also been active in
providing various training and capacity building programs. I hope this will continue to be carried
out in more industrial sectors," said the Minister of Industry.

Kankeiren is an economic organization which currently has 1300 members consisting of

the service industry, manufacturing, universities and other business communities. The
association in the Kansai region includes six prefectures (provincial equivalents) and has been
established since 1946. Since the 1980s, this organization has been active in providing training
and internships for industrial human resources and companies from Indonesia, including the first
to be involved in the program. Until now, Kankeiren continues to carry out similar activities such
as training in molding and welding for workers in Indonesia.
In February, the Minister of Industry visited several industrial centers in Japan, including
meeting the Vice Chairman of Kankeiren, Masayuki Matsushita who is also the Vice Chairman
of the Board of Panasonic Corporation, in Osaka. At this meeting, Kankeiren revealed that
Indonesia has a young generation who has the potential to become a skilled workforce. The
continued excitement of the economy and industry is expected to be used as a momentum to
boost the capabilitiesof industrial human resources.
