Wheelchair Ramp Project

Federal Regulations for wheelchair ramps:
According to the ADA, a standard wheelchair ramp should have a slope
greater than 1.20, the ramp must also have a width of 36 inches, the
ramp should have a top and bottom landing area as wide as the ramp
measuring 60 inches long, the landing size also has to be at least 5 feet
square. Ramps should also have handrails between both sides, and they
must be greater than 72 inches, also a level landing is required for a
disabled person to pass by. The maximum entrance height is ¾ inch for
exterior sliding doors and ½ inch for different types of doors without
tempering. These wheelchair ramps are essential for disabled people to
continue to live their lives as normal as possible. Without wheelchair
ramps, these people would suffer immensely, thanks to these ramps
these people can live ordinary lives. These are the federal requirements
for a typical wheelchair ramp, now let’s see if my supposed wheelchair
ramp meets the requirements.
Does my ramp meet the requirements for a federal
approved wheelchair ramp?

First, we need to calculate the ramp’s width and height. With these
measurements we are supposed to find the slope of the ramp. The width
of the ramp is 102 inches and the height 11.5 inches. Now we can find
the slope. My first step was to make a graph and draw the ramp with the
appropriate units of measurements and used the formula rise/run, with
this I determined the slope. The slope of this supposed wheelchair ramp
is 0.1, only with this information we can say that this is not a federal
approved wheelchair ramp. For this to be an approved wheelchair ramp I
would change the slope of the ramp.
