Bird & Bird is opening an office in Ireland in June 12 New Fetter Lane from below.
2022. Located in central Dublin, the office will
initially have a specialist focus on technology, data
protection, and intellectual property.

With a wonderful and diverse existing client base

across the world, the Irish office will be working on a
broad range of transactions. Associates should
demonstrate a real interest in the legal issues
inherent in use of technology and content in all
aspects.

The roles are an excellent opportunity to join the new

office right from the beginning and to grow with the
office as it develops. The next few years will be
exciting!

The Team
We will have recognised technology and data
protection subject matter partner experts in the Irish
office from the opening of the office. We aim to grow
the office in Dublin very quickly.

From the date of joining Bird & Bird, you will become
part of our globally recognised, tier 1 ranked team in
its specialist areas, reflecting the firm’s strengths in
sectors such as Communications, Media, E-
commerce, Financial Services, Health and IT.
The Roles
We are looking to recruit Junior and Mid-Level
Associates to join our new team in Ireland.
Candidates should have an interest in developing a
specialist focus on technology, data protection,
and/or intellectual property
Associates with a key focus on technology will assist
with a range of technology transactions (both
business and consumer), and also on the regulatory
laws that impact on technology and the online
environment, such as consumer protection laws, and
the regulation of platforms digital content, data and
related services.

Associates with a focus on data protection will assist

in advising an exciting array of clients on a diverse
range of challenging and cutting-edge data protection
issues including GDPR implementation and
compliance, data breach reporting and management,
operationalisation of data subject rights, data
transfer challenges, data protection litigation and
children’s data protection compliance issues.

The Associates will also help the with a range of

business development activities, including by
developing foreign client relationships, and links
with Bird & Bird offices (such as short-term
secondments).

What you Need

For the technology related roles you will need to
understand and have experience of technology
related work as well as general commercial
contracting and advisory experience, ideally with
some experience in one or more of the following:
IT (e.g. SaaS, software development & licensing,
VARs); content and non-personal data; and
ecommerce, platform regulation and digital goods
and services.
For the data protection roles you will need an
understanding of the data protection legal regime
in Ireland and the EU, ideally with a grounding in
data protection regulatory and/or compliance
work at a junior level gained inhouse or in a
comparable law firm environment.
Your skills
Successful candidates should have:
 A commercial approach to addressing clients’
needs with a focus on problem solving.
 Strong technical drafting skills.
 A commitment to regularly update their own
technical expertise and to achieve continuous
improvement and development.
 Outstanding academics – these are desirable
but we are mainly looking for an interest in
and desire to contribute to this work area.
The main responsibilities of these roles are
outlined above, however this description is not
exhaustive and the job holder may be required to
undertake additional duties from time to time to
ensure the smooth running of the department.
The role may require some working outside our
normal working hours of 9:30am- 5:30pm.
