SCIENTIFIC STUDY ON PANDEMIC COVID-19 AS THE WORST

PANDEMIC IN THE WORLD THAT DAMAGES THE STRUCTURE OF

COMMUNITY LIFE

INTRODUCTION

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-19) pandemic has affected education

systems around the world, leading to the closure of schools, universities and
colleges. As of 27 April 2020, approximately 1.7 billion students were affected in
response to the pandemic. According to UNICEF monitoring, 186 countries have
implemented national closures and 8 countries implemented local closures. This
affects approximately 98.5% of the world's student population (UNESCO, 2020).
The policies taken by many countries including Indonesia by closing all
educational activities have made the government and related institutions have to
present an alternative educational process for students and students who cannot
carry out the educational process at educational institutions (Purwanto et al.,
2020).

Gewin's research (2020) states that many universities around the world have
postponed or canceled various activities such as campus events, seminars,
conferences, sports competitions and other activities. The university has been
moving fast to transition programs to keep learning going. In response to this,
UNESCO (2020) recommends using distance learning programs and opening
educational applications and platforms that can be used by schools or colleges to
reach students and students remotely. Around 96 countries have opened platforms
in the form of online libraries, educational broadcasts on television, simulation
videos, and other online programs (Basilaia et al., 2020).

Prolonged school closure and home quarantine (self quarantine) may have
negative effects on physical and mental health (Brazendale et al., 2017).
Supported by YoungMinds research (2020) Nearly 83% of young people think
that the pandemic has worsened pre-existing mental health conditions. This is due
to school closures, loss of daily routines and limited social connections. The rest
experienced symptoms of anxiety, which was positively correlated with increased
concern about academic delay.

Various solutions or policies have been pursued by governments around the

world. But the end of this pandemic is not yet clear. This essay aims to analyze
how the Covid-19 pandemic has damaged the structure of world life so that it is
dubbed a collapsed pandemic. This essay is expected to become scientific reading
material for readers about how the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on the life
order of the world community.

ISI DAN PEMBAHASAN

A. COVID-19

The Covid-19 pandemic is a health crisis that shocked the world in early
2020. The world was shocked by the outbreak of a new virus, namely a new type
of coronavirus (SARS-Co-V-2) and the disease called Coronavirus Disease
(Covid-19). This new type of virus originated in Wuhan, China which was
discovered at the end of December 2019.

The corona virus is a large family of viruses that cause mild to severe
illness, such as colds and serious illnesses such as SARS and MERS. Covid-19
infection can cause moderate to severe symptoms. The clinical symptoms that
arise are difficulty breathing, coughing, and fever. In addition, it can be
accompanied by severe shortness of breath, fatigue, myalgia, gastrointenistal
symptoms such as diarrhea and other respiratory symptoms. Half of the patients
develop shortness of breath within one week. This virus is called a pandemic
because it spreads rapidly to various countries, one of which is being carried by
tourists or people visiting other countries who have been unknowingly exposed to
the corona virus so they spread it to other people who have not been exposed.
That's how this virus mutates in the world.

This outbreak has been designated a global health emergency. This virus
had hampered all human daily activities. Quarantine alone may not be sufficient to
prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and the global impact of this viral
infection is one that is increasingly concerning (Sohrabi et al., In Putri: 2020). The
Indonesian government has taken many steps and policies to overcome this
pandemic problem. One of the first steps taken by the government is to socialize
the Social Distancing movement to the community. This step aims to break the
chain of transmission of the Covid-19 pandemic because this step requires people
to maintain a safe distance from other humans of at least 2 meters, not make direct
contact with other people and avoid mass gatherings (Buana D.R, in Putri: 2020).

Covid-19 Became The World's Worst Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the Corona

COVID-19 Virus a pandemic on Wednesday (11/03/2020). This is because it
occurred after the SARS-like outbreak infected a growing number of people
where on Thursday morning the figure had reached 126,063 cases. With a total
death toll of 4,616 and 67,071 recovered, according to Worldometers.

WHO stresses that the use of the term pandemic does not mean that the
recommendations have changed. All countries are still required to detect, test,
treat, isolate, track and monitor the movements of their people.

"The change in terms does not change anything practically considering

that a few weeks earlier the world had been reminded to prepare itself for a
potential pandemic," said Dr. Nathalie MacDermott King's College London.

"But the use of this term highlights the importance of countries around the
world to work cooperatively and openly with each other and unite as a united
front in an effort to control this situation."

In severe cases, Corona virus infection can cause the following

complications:

 Pneumonia (lung infection)

 Secondary infection of other organs

 Kidney failure
 Acute cardiac injury

 Acute respiratory distress syndrome

 Dead

In some people, this disease can progress to pneumonia, multi-organ

failure, and death. Neurological manifestations include seizures, strokes,
encephalitis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. Cardiovascular-related complications
may include heart failure, irregular electrical activity, blood clots, and
inflammation of the heart.

In some people, COVID-19 can affect the lungs causing pneumonia. In

those most severely affected, COVID-19 can rapidly progress to acute respiratory
distress syndrome (ARDS) leading to respiratory failure, septic shock, or multi-
organ failure. Complications associated with COVID-19 include sepsis, abnormal
clotting, and damage to the heart, kidneys and liver. Clotting abnormalities, in
particular increased prothrombin time, have been described in 6% of those
hospitalized with COVID-19, while abnormal kidney function was seen in 4% of
this group. About 20-30% of people who present with COVID-19 show elevated
liver enzymes (transaminases). Liver injury as indicated by blood markers of liver
damage is often seen in severe cases.

CONCLUSION

Covid-19 Is A Global Pandemy That Cannot Be Underestimated. The Potential Of

Fluctuative Distribution Makes This Pandemy The Worst Sustainable Pandemic
In History Of Human Civilization. The Impact Of The Covid-19 Pandemic,
Which Ranges From The Lowest Level To The Most Severe, Namely Death,
Needs To Be Watched Out For. Therefore, The Government And The Community
Are Expected To Work Together In An Effort To Prevent Further Spread Of The
Covid-19 Case. Given The Covid-19 Outbreak Which Has Been Going On For
More Than One Year, It Shows That There Is Still Lack Of Human Concern For
The Dangers Of Covid-19. In Addition, The Government And The Public Must
Both Comply With Agreed Health Protocols In Order To Achieve Safety From
The Covid-19 Pandemic Disaster.
