03 Readings 1: "Locating the Global South" BSIT-1B

IDEAS Summary/Explanation
Introduction:
The The Shanty and Starbucks are two examples of the effects of
Starbucks
and the globalization. We might also see the modernity and global
Shanty connectivity that globalization has provided. However, from what I
understand, Starbucks is one place where the effects of global
modernism and globalization may be observed. Melbourne, Manila,
New York, and New Delhi are all cities with Starbucks shops. The
appearance and drink selections are the same across the board.
Because of this, we can conclude that globalization has advanced.
The situation is very different outside of this upscale, appealing
cafe, though, as you will observe poverty, one of the negative
effects of globalization. In Manila and Delhi, one can encounter a
juvenile beggar wearing ragged clothing and worn-out shoes.
Because of their poor hygiene and usage of scrap plywood and
galvanized iron sheets, the homes are known as "shanties" or
"shanties." They reside in "weak states," whose governments are
too poor, frail, dishonest, and unstable to provide for the necessities
of their citizens. Despite the fact that New York Metropolis is
home to shanties akin to those in New Delhi, the city is also rife
with widespread injustice. Even though Harlem is poor, there aren't
many children working there. Starbucks and The Shanty could be
likened to how imperfect globalization is in the developing world.
The Shanty depicts the local's tenacity in not being able to integrate
into Starbucks' global civilization. The underdevelopment of the
global south highlights the underlying inequality of the process and
prevents it from becoming globalized. Poverty is outdated,
unmodern, cosmopolitan, and non-global, to name a few. This kind
of globalization is unfair. To summarize, Starbucks and Shanty are
symbols that might be compared to the global south in
globalization, where global modernity exists but poverty
remains international. Additionally, Starbucks and The Shanty are
both about the negative aspects of globalization.
