1. The LEEA Code of Practice requires that welders are proficient and working to approved
processes:

(a) If the purchaser does not require weld procedure approval the welder would
be tested to BS 4872 Part 1. State in your own words the scope of work you
would expect the welder to undertake if tested to this standard.
The scope of work i would expect the welder to undertakeis he should observe,identify and prehaps
record (measure) the features of the weld.He should decide whether the weld is acceptable in terms
of the particular levels that are permitted;defect level may be "in house" or national code of
practice.The welder should be farmily with all applicable document,quality plan autherised and
endorsed with signature,date and company stamp.

(b) What defects would the Examiner look for?


Lack of fusion/penetration,porosity,slag inclusion,undercut,spatter,overlap,crater cracks, stray flash
etc.

2. What certificate would be required if the purchaser required full weld procedures and what
information would this certificate contain?
Welder approval test certificate and information contain in the certificate are:Welder's name and
identity number,date of test,standard of code in full,test piece in details including material
specification,equipment and consumble details,extent of approval,sketch of run sequence,preparation
and dimensions,operating parameter,test result (visual,NDT,DT), remarks, withness by,test
supervisor and location.
