The first time I heard and fully absorb the word dimension is probably

when I watched Doctor Strange, one of the movies in Marvel Universe, where
the protagonist Stephen Strange fights the cosmic entity slash the antagonist
named Dormammu in the place called Dark Dimension, where it is full of
unknown things but surely holds a great power. So when I encounter again
this word, my interest automatically take off, many question builds up in my
mind like something excites it. As I skimming the module I found very useful
and a lot of style and techniques on how should I manage a school
community, what should I teach to my students in the near future, and many
more answers and solution to my unanswered inquiry. Another thing and the
most special and important realization is that realizing the word Dimension do
not just exist in a fantasy-supernatural world, but also in reality and to my very
own field, which is teaching.

The Module by Dr. Marzano called Dimensions of Learning is really

quite eye catching especially for those people who desire to go in the path of
teaching of course. There is the automatic instinct that this material will do
good and will be a lot of help as it is full of new knowledge and information.
Well all books have their own content of information, their difference will be
the depth of that information involved and included to their pages. The first
part of the book tours the reader to its vast content, the Dimensions are
separated in five categories and the book covers a 6 chapter where every of it
tackles the dimension and the last one is all about putting the dimensions all
together. Based on what has been mentioned in the module, the dimensions
of learning is a comprehensive model that derived mostly to theorist and
researchers work to discover and to define learning process itself. A set of
observations, solutions, techniques and style to help every aspiring educator,
as well the in field professional teachers who maybe still seeking what is the
most efficient and effective teaching style to help their everyday work. The
first thing that my eye catches is the part where every dimension has its own
classroom example where If I was asked about it, I will simply mark this part
as it is the best part. As we can read how to properly execute the procedure
and to learn the actual scenario that probably we will also use in the future.

As I said earlier there are five dimensions called (in order): Attitudes
and Perceptions, Acquire and Integrate Knowledge, Extend and Refine
Knowledge, Use Knowledge Meaningfully, and Habits of Mind. These five
main parts of the book surely holds their own uniqueness of support to lift and
define every aspect of a standard or desired teaching. First let us discover the
first chapter and the first dimension called Attitudes and Perceptions where
it simply affects a student performance and behavior towards the class. For
example scenario, I will give my personal experience. When this teacher in
my highs school seems uninterested towards his/her students growth and
performances whether it is good or bad result, this teacher did not teach
properly maybe because of the reason of old age, so the tendency of learning
of the student is very slim and my perception about this subject is very low
energy and boring that will lead to be having a negative impact as I did not
learn a thing at all. Another positive example is that when a teacher is very
active and friendly to his/her student it will give us an exciting day of
discussion and it may lead to a better performance as we eagerly want to
know more from this teacher. Second dimension is called Acquire and
Integrate Knowledge, from the title itself we know what id going on in this
dimension we can have a hint that it is all about discovering and founding a
information and apply it in ourselves. It is important to execute what you have
learn in your life, that someday you will apply those lesson in school, learning
is not just about gaining information and then you will just stock it in your
mind, you should think ways on how this new information will be useful to your
life. For example is that when you just found how to cook an adobo recipe on
a cookbook you just read by in a bookstore. The second dimension will take
effect if you plan to try cooking this recipe on dinner night. By just acquiring
this new found knowledge and doing or applying it the same time is how this
second dimension works. Third dimension is Extend and Refine Knowledge
where the module says that learning does not stop by just acquiring and
integrating the new found knowledge but also to extend it and to refine it to its
utmost limit or perfection. Let’s use the example earlier about cooking the
adobo recipe you just acquired, this third dimension will work when you try to
transform your adobo recipe with a twist, like adding some pineapple to it. Or
when you found out that adobo is better when its sweet, so you now add
sugar to it, by that you extend the capability of yourself cooking this adobo
plus you now refining it by making it the best adobo as you corrected flavor or
corrected the error you just found. So in teaching field this dimension will work
also if you now try to stretch the new found learnings and now refining it to be
the most effective and efficient knowledge. The fourth dimension is Use
Knowledge Meaningfully that to be said is the most effective learning as you
use your knowledge in a whole different level. The example I think for this is
that when humans knew that we can use sunlight for alternative source of
electricity, that is why the invention of solar panels occur. From the knowledge
we gain, we think for its usage and ask how to reach a broad beneficiary, and
by that I think it is a knowledge which is meaningfully applied. Last dimension
is called Habits of Mind whereas the effective learners can now think beyond
than the normal ones. They can now possess skills like critical thinking,
creativity and such the like. These people who acquired this dimension is
more likely to be an intellectual as they are not shallow minded people and
they can see a bigger picture than anyone else.

As I end this reflective note the one of the things I sure of is that this
manual will help every student teacher or the teacher itself to be more
effective when it comes to handling his/her work, on how to deal in different
situations happening in the classroom. A single manual yet so powerful, that
is what Dr. Marzano gives us. A manual we can look in times of difficulty and
in times of distress as being a teacher who holds a great responsibility, we
should carry this techniques and styles to be an effective foundation of
learning. To build a intellectual students for the benefits of this nation. “Oh
how fine it is to know a thing or two” a quotation in the manual, but for me,
how fine it is to know not just a thing or two, but a five dimensions of
learning…
