Write your experience or insights on how the youth today shows confidence and interest in
using their mother tongue. Do the youth still value the language they were brought up with? Explain your answer.
➢ As a Filipino Youth, I encounter young people with different mindset and
perspectives in life. In social media it caught my attention that some of the young people who uses social media mostly communicate with their fans, friends or other young people using that English language. I seldom see young people who confidently uses the Filipino language as a way of communicating to our fellow young people. Although there are people who uses their platform to inform others about the issues that are going on right now, not all of them are being understood by everyone, because there are people who don't understand english that well and those information that is written in english doesn’t serve its purpose to inform everyone. With the current situation of our country it is more necessary for everyone to be updated and be aware of what is happening in our country, what are the things that they should be aware and knowledgeable about In my opinion, every youth values the language that they were brought up with but there are instances where the youth is told to not speak with the language that they were brought up to but to speak in english. Schools require students to speak in english most of the time, the time that they can speak in Filipino is where their subject is Filipino or when it is their break time. So, how would they excel in speaking in Filipino if we don’t use it all the time? As someone who is still learning about our language i can positively say that learning our own language is fun because I get to know its history and its origin. Our language has its own beauty and for us to see its beauty we should value it and embrace it for it is who we are.
