INTRODUCTION TO PRESSURE COMPENSATED
IMPLEMENT CONTROL VALVES USED IN LS/PC
HYDRAULIC SYSTEMSINTRODUCTION TO PRESSURE COMPENSATED IMPLEMENT
CONTROL VALVES USED IN LS/PC SYSTEMS
This 90 minute program is part three of a multi-part series on Load Sensing/Pressure
Compensated Hydraulics (LS/PC).
It is intended for the Service Training Instructor, mechanic, and those personnel who need
a basic understanding of pressure compensated implement control valves. We will study
the operation of implement control valves used in the 416-446 Backhoe Loaders, G-
Series Motorgraders, D4H-D8N Track Type Tractors, and 916-936 Wheel Loaders
(IT18B/IT28B).
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the broadcast the student will be able:
To identify all major components and explain their function.
To explain how the valves react to changes in flow requirements and work port
loads.
To trace flow through the valves for the different valve positions discussed.
To successfully complete a short quiz following the program on the material
covered.
PREREQUISITES
Students need a good working knowledge of hydraulics. If they were not able to
participate in the first program of this series held on May 11, 1990 titled “Introduction to
Load Sensing/Pressure Compensated Hydraulics”, then it is suggested they review a
tape of the broadcast.
Note: Participants will watch the program on TV monitors, and will be able to ask the
instructor questions during the presentation. Site coordinators will receive one set of
handouts prior to the program to be duplicated and distributed to viewers prior to the start
of the program
This handbook will help reinforce the information being presented in this program. The
student should complete the handbook as directed by the program instructor.
A quiz will be given upon completion of this program to assist the dealer instructor in
determining the effectiveness of the instruction.‘STUDENT HANDOUT #1
