What are the three (3) types of approach to basic
research? Describe each type.

Quantitative Research
- is a formal, objective, and systematic procedure for obtaining information about the world
using numerical data. This research method is used to explain variables, investigate
correlations between variables, and identify cause-and-effect interactions between
variables.

Qualitative Research
- is based on information gathered by the researcher through firsthand observation,
interviews, surveys, focus groups, participant observation, natural setting recordings,
documents, and artifacts. The information is mostly non-numerical.

Mixed Method
- is a methodology that allows researchers to use more than just one methodology to solve
a problem or a set of hypotheses. More precisely it refers to the systematic integration,
or“mixing” of quantitative and qualitative data within a single research project or simply
alongside a set of hypotheses.
1. Can you recognize the nature of qualitative research, its kinds, characteristics, strengths,
and weaknesses? Kindly provide your brief explanation.
- Kinds of qualitative research : case study, ethnography, phenomenology, content and
discourse analysis. Characteristics: human understanding and interpretation in data
analysis Active, powerful in data gathering and rephrasing interview questions

Strengths: it adopts a naturalistic approach to its subject matter,, promotes a full

understanding of human behavior/personality traits in their natural

Weaknesses: it involves a lot of researcher’s subjectivity in data analysis

2. How do the strengths and weaknesses help us in writing the research proposal?
- We all have skills and weaknesses when creating a research proposal. Recognizing our
strengths and limitations can assist us in improving the areas where we fall short. It can assist
us in improving ourselves in order to discover what may be better in terms of writing a
research proposal. It can also assist us in being more informed in order for the research to
be more effective.

3. Can you figure out the importance of qualitative research? Organize your ideas by
presenting three important functions of qualitative research.
- Qualitative research is in-depth research that uses a range of approaches to figure out
how and why individuals think, feel, behave, and act the way they do. Sample sizes are often
small because the purpose of observational interviews and even focus groups is to develop
ideas, methodologies, or, for example, an understanding of mechanisms that control
groups or organizations. Qualitative analysis can be used in practically any study setting
when the goal isn't to figure out "how many."
