4.05 Graded Assignment: Playwriting Self Reflection

● In what ways has your writing grown with this project?

My writing has grown with this project in the skills that I can confidently say I know how
to properly use when it comes to creative writing and playwriting. I have never written a
playscript (or any script, really) before and there was a lot more effort and revising that
went into it than I had originally expected.
● What did you learn that was new to you? How did you use that new learning in other
writing you do?
This entire project or learning about and writing our own play script was entirely new to
me. I don’t think I have used the things I have learned about creating a play script yet in
my other writing, but I definitely could see myself using these skills in the future to create
a script for a podcast or short film to use as a project in other classes.
● What have you most enjoyed about writing a play? What did you least enjoy?
I enjoyed how writing out each thing a character did, from their lines to their actions,
made it easier to picture the scene and what was happening in it in my head. I think one
thing that I found to be difficult was all the different formatting requirements and how long
it took to write out everything and then convert it into the play script format.
● Have you met any of the goals you made for yourself earlier in this class? How?
Describe.
Yes. I am actually surprised at how invested I’ve been in class this trimester. My life have
been pretty messy since January of this year and somehow I’m managing :)
● What do you still want to work on?
I really liked the creative fiction writing. I think for myself it is easier to just come up with
a story and write it out rather than have to spend a lot of time making sure it adheres to
the guidelines required, like when writing poetry or a script for a play. Creative fiction and
nonfiction (along with some poetry forms, I suppose) really give you as the author the
freedom to create the story how you see fit, and that is something that I prefer when I am
writing.
● What new goals do you have for yourself?
● My new goal for myself is to continue using these writing techniques even outside of
class and to continue challenging myself to practice using all the writing styles, even if
they aren’t my preference.
