Answer
1. basic knowledge required in re- search, relates the present research with the previous
research, helps researchers facilitate the process of research, and helps avoid unnecessary
replication of the previous research.
2. Basically any source of information related to the study can be selected for review. The
sources include scholarly books, journal ar- ticles, magazines, newspapers, official
documents, e-journals, etc. The sources can be classified into primary and secondary sources,
each having its own role in literature review.
3. Secondary sources of information include any publications written by an author who was
not a direct observer or participants in the events described (Borg, W.R., Gall, M.D. 1989 :
115). They do not pro- vide first hand or eyewitness account.
Primary sources are direct descriptions of occurance by individuals who actually observed
or witnessed the occurances.
4. Researchers conduct a literature review to identify the areas of a topic that have not
yet been researched in detail. They then go and do the research to fill the research gap.
This is how researchers contribute to the development of knowledge on that topic.
5. First, it is important that authors who gave conducted a hard work of research be
recognized and given credit
Second, by citing The authors of sources cited, reviewers keep themselves Free from
being Accused of plagiarism.
Third, by citing the authors of the sources Being reviewed, the reviewer can be earn
readers' trust.
Fourth, by citing the authors of sources being reviewed, the reviewers convince the
readers that reviewers’ that present research project is connected to research project in
the field.
Fifth, Citing the authors of sources being reviewed allows readers’ to pursue their on
work.
6. Syntesis is used in literature review why analysis is used in computing research data,
ik synthesis reviews to conclude ideas from difference sources, by companing
similaritis and contrasting difference, comparing strenght and weakness of each
sources. Synthesis is defined as combining constituent the elements of seporate
material or abstaract entities into a single or unified entity.
In analysis, reviewers try to understand the meaning behind the data being analysis
the statiscal analysis or verbal analysis. Analysis formally is defined as : the proces of
breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts to gain a better of
understanding of it, the product of synthesis is understanding the common ideas
present by several sources. The product is analysis of the pattern or regularly or the
system’ underlyng the object being investigated.
7. Procedure in Literature Review Activities in review of literature include locating,
reading, and evoluating reports of research as well as reports of casual observations
and opinions related to the individual's research project plan . The activities start from
examining the research problems, then proceed to identifying the key terms and
related topics, loçating sources of information, reading the sources, summarizing the
content, synthesizing the summaries, and drawing the conclusions. The steps can be
elaborated as follows.
Examining the research problems and identifying the key words and topics from
research problems (Borg, WR, Gall, MD 1989:117), Locating references that discuss
the key words including books, research reports, thesis/dissertations, periodical
journals, newspapers, curriculum materials, educational products, computer search (
Reading for the main ideas and noting selected references. Prepare a bibliography
card for each source to be read. Read the abstract first or the summary, if the content
is pertinent to your study then go on reading the content, otherwise select another
source. (Borg, WR, Gall, MD 1989:157) Organizing the cards containing the
summaries of the ideas from the sources Synthesizing the notes from the cards based
on each topic Reporting the conclusions of the synthesis and citing the sources
Burton, D. and Bartlett , S. (2005:77) suggests that it is best done by writing in the
researcher's own words, organizing notes around em- bryonic key arguments or points
of inquiry.
