 List common mistake to avoid in reviewing the literature.

There are many common mistakes when reviewing the literature especially if you
are new in this field like incorporating unrelated texts from every article and book which
do not match the needs of the specific research, citing out-dated references, improper
citing of texts, intensive gathering of informations from previous literatures, listing all
appropriated material from one literature, making biased claims and judgments, and
restraining originality in writing particular claims on the subject matter. In addition, it
should be also avoided to starting a section with reference and using references in the
introductory part of the research.

 What is a theoretical framework?

Based on the review, it is the second framework within four frameworks approach
to the research project. It comes out from a conceptual framework. This encompasses the
model of the research procedure and draws the viewpoints of the research. It serves as a
guide for the researchers to explore thoughts and forms which are appropriately
structured in the research flow. Based on a review published by Sacred Heart University
(2020), the literature review structuralizes a theory which supports the entire research. It
is the wholesome introduction and description of the theory prior to the essence of the
research being made. Since you might take a long time in understanding the theory of the
research, the framework helps you to get easily onto it.

 Give some pointers in writing the literature review.

Writing a research and critical reading goes hand-in-hand when writing a

literature review. If the researchers collect facts and informations from any related
sources, it should be classified and organized in coherent pattern. Also, they are well
criticized before getting used. The sources of the used materials should be located easily.
The framework should not get distant from the discussion and important highlights of the
literature review. It must help in the summary of the structure of the entire research. In
writing, the researchers should use own language to maintain originality, avoid biased
claims and judgements, and make a proper comparison of any contrasting ideas and
claims about your research. Making drafts and comprehensive reading can also help
researchers for careful judgement if they will be added to the review.
 How to prevent plagiarism in the literature review?

Plagiarism is one of the common threats to the credibility and integrity of any
researches. It is somehow made due to the ignorance of writing proper like good citation,
paraphrasing, and bibliographic referencing. Contrarily, a legal principle which states
“Ignorance of the Law excuses no one,” has to checkmate the negligent writing. Thus, to
prevent this, we have to be literate of the writing proper. In writing a literature review, we
should ensure if the references we used are all complete. As we are citing a reference, it
must be included in our bibliographic references, however, to acknowledge the original
work and the credits of the author. In addition to this, proper paraphrasing of cited texts is
also a good practice to avoid plagiarism. It helps us to interpret the texts with using our
own language and to deal with the pursuits of originality.

 What is the importance of literature review?

The literature review provides the backbone of the research being made. It
represents significant facts and informations about your topic. Based on the review, it
serves as a compass in navigating the particular topic, informs the researches to the
development of the latest reviews which are related in the particular topic, emphasizes the
disposition of the author to any sectors, and provides a powerful basis for the
examination of the research. This will induce the researcher’s writing skills and
intellectual capability for the narrowing of the topic which contributes to the
advancement and expansiveness of the research. It helps the researchers to have a
rigorous thinking of the topic wherein a lot of time and effort that are saved.

 Cite some activities that need to be consider in writing literature review.

According to McCombes (2020), in writing a literature review, there are five main
processes which follow: search for relevant literature, evaluate sources, identify themes,
debates, and gaps, outline the structure, and write literature review. It is stated that
conducting a literature review involves collection, evaluation, and analysis of the
publications being used related to the research inquiry.

Based on the review, there are steps being given in writing a literature review.
First, collect, evaluate, and select literature; the researchers have to filter out if there are
repeating references, list the included keywords in the statement, and monitor sources
with references to avoid copyright infringement. Second, find connections and themes; to
perceive the associations between current and previous sources, likewise, the filtered
sources can be added to the existing data. Third, plan literature review’s structure; to
utilize a particular method in composing statements, however, the researchers can select
any of the methods which follow: chronological, thematic, methodological, and
theoretical. When the researchers have already performed the previous steps, writing a
literature review can be made legibly.

 Questions to be considered when conducting a literature review.

There are many questions that can be considered when conducting a review. In
line this; these are some of the necessary questions to be considered; what is the specific
problem which can be clearly defined with the help of literature review? What specific
type of research does the researchers conducting? What is the scope of the literature
review? Does the informations being gathered fully contributes in the foundation of the
research? Does the informations undergone critical analysis for validity, relevance, and
reliability? And, Are the informations contrary to the researchers’ perspective?
Those questions are helpful for the researchers to spot the focal point of the main
research. It helps them not to be misled with any unrelated reviews. These will be a guide
as well as precautionary measures in the proper and substantial writing of any reviews.

 How to locate sources for literature review?

In locating sources or any significant articles, the readers can check the reference
rundown to find other significant sources. If it is not shown in the keyword search,
observe if there are repeated references. However, the researchers can scan the entire
research before deciding if all the added articles are helpful. In other instances, there are
online databases which are available in any school library where researchers can find
significant and related researches easily. Otherwise, the researchers also have to check
out the bibliographic references to locate the sources of the materials being used.

 What is the difference between a quality and a poor literature review?

In writing a literature review, the researcher should be reminded of the significant

key points of what quality research is. Herewith, the Monash University published a
checklist of what a quality literature is or not. Consequently, a quality literature review
provides clear articulation of the researcher’s argument which is relevant to the research.
It also connects previous researches, and synthesizes and evaluates related sources. On
the other hand, a poor literature review is simply a collection of texts which sound
interesting for the researchers, a compilation of materials, and a list of discussed
summary of each and every text.
 List at least five purposes of literature review. Discuss briefly.

As the aforementioned phrase stated that the literature review is the “backbone of the
research,” consequently, literature review plays an important role in the foundation of the
research. First, literature review becomes the web which interconnects several sources like
books, articles, news, and so forth, specifically, to broaden the perspective of the research. These
sources are well arranged to discuss some of the results showed in the previous reviews, to cite
the achievements of the authors in any particular study, and generates the mental capacity of the
readers for the formulation of judgements and decisions. Second, it plays a significant part of the
educational growth, the more the researchers know about literature reviews, and the more they
become literate in any field of research. It helps the readers to spot any false claims and biased
informations; wherein the more likely they become critical of any texts. Third, it is a source of
some sort of fun and critical reading, helping us to grasp the substance of any research, which
highly contributes to the readers to become more efficient and effective. Fourth, it helps the
researchers to build own ideas and claims when writing a research. Prior to this specific research
part, this will be the writing laboratory where can an experiment of various sources can be
conducted which are related to your topic, then formulating own claims and judgments based on
the materials being used. Lastly, literature review also helps the researchers in proper writing of
any academic or non-academic research. It is a guide to practice writing skills which generates
creativity and innovation being embellished in the research.
