555 IC as an Oscillator Circuit

Objectives: To use 555 IC as an Oscillator

To determine how 555 IC produces a square wave

Apparatus/Materials: Digital Oscilloscope, DC Source, Resistors, Capacitors, connecting wires and

Breadboard

Circuit Diagram: Sample Astable 555 Circuit

Figure 2
Procedures :

1. Use 9 volts Dry cell as your Vdc ( 555 IC requires 4.5 volts to 15 volts)
2. Use available R1 and R2
3. Use available Capacitor C1
4. Theoretically compute Thigh and Tlow from the given computation
5. Compute for total time T = Thigh + Tlow
6. Compute for the frequency, f = 1/T
7. Assemble the circuit in the breadboard, then power up
8. Record data gathered in table 1
9. Design an astable 555 IC oscillator with an output of a square wave( T(low) = T(high))
10. Record data in Table 2
