Determination of Nitrate in

Wastewater using Sodium salicylate

Chemicals & Reagents

NaOH + Potassium
NO3 Stock Solution Sodium Salicylate Conc. H2SO4 Soduim Tartrate
Procedures
Prepare the standard solutions of 0.5,1,2,5 & 10
mg/l from the working solution, each of 100 ml
Prepare the sample and the standards
by adding 1 ml of Sodium Salicylate to
50 ml of them

50 ml + 1 ml
Put on the hot plate and wait till the
evaporation of all water
** Avoid over heating
Add 1 ml of H2SO4 to the dried sample
Then Add 50 ml of Distilled Water
Wait for a while, and then add 7 ml of
NaOH + Potassium Soduim Tartrate
solution
Wait till the yellow color appears
Read @ 420 nm after zeroing the
spectrophotometer with the blank
sample
Results & Calculations
Tabulate the readings and prepare the
calibration curve
