Title: CREATE NEW FILE AND PRACTICE BASIC DRAW AND MODIFY
COMMANDS
Performance Objective: Given the materials, tools and equipment, you are
required to create new file and practice basic draw
and modify commands by following the given
procedures and AutoCAD commands within the time
limit of 30 minutes.
Supplies/Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pen

Equipment:

1. Computer set/AutoCAD work station

Create a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose New ➢ Drawing

* You can open new or existing and save file by button in the Quick Access
toolbar.

Click Model Layout Tab

LINE Command
You can also start the LINE command by typing L 

1. Home tab ➢ Draw panel ➢ click Line tool.


2. Specify first point: 7,2 
3. Specify next point or [Undo]: 11,3 
4. Specify next point or [Undo]: 9,6 
5. Specify next point or [Undo]: 7,2 
6. Specify next point or [Undo]: 1,4 
7. Specify next point or [Undo]: 3,7 
8. Specify next point or [Undo]: 9,6 
9. Specify next point or [Undo]:  (to end)

* Repeat the LINE command and click 5 times in different location in model
space simultaneously and press enter.

Draw LINE using Cartesian Coordinates

1. Home tab ➢ Draw panel ➢ click Line tool.


2. Specify first point: 3, 3 
3. Type @6,0 
4. Type @0,5 
5. Type -6,0 
Look at the command prompt. It reads
6. Specify next point or [Close/Undo]:
7. Type C or Click Close in the command-line
Draw LINE using Relative Cartesian Coordinates

1. Home tab ➢ Draw panel ➢ click Line tool.


2. Type @3,3  to start the box at the same point.
3. Type @6<0  (If the Dynamic Input tool is turned on, the @ symbol is not
required)
4. Type @5<90 
5. Type @6<180 
6. Type C 

Offset Command
You can also start the OFFSET command by typing O 

1. Home tab ➢ Modify panel ➢Offset tool.


2. Specify offset distance or [Through/Erase/Layer] <Through>:
3. Type 0.5↵
4. Select object to offset or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>:
5. Specify point on side to offset or [Exit/Multiple/Undo] <Exit>:

Fillet Command
You can also start the FILLET command by typing F 

1. Home tab ➢ Modify panel ➢ Fillet tool.


The command prompt after initiating the FILLET command. The default
Fillet Specify the radius:
2. Type 5  to change the radius to 0.
3. Select first object or [Undo Polyline Radius Trim Multiple]:
4. Select second object or [Undo Polyline Radius Trim Multiple]:

CIRCLE Command
You can also start the CIRCLE command by typing C 

1. Home tab ➢ Home panel ➢ Circle tool.


2. Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: FROM Base
point: END of <Offset>: @0,10 (this co-ordinate is a point 10 units above
the endpoint)
3. Specify radius of circle or [Diameter] <10.0000>: 10 (a radius value of 10
ensures that the southern point on the circle will touch the top of the line)

Save a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Save As


2. Choose the version you want from the Files Of Type drop-down list at the
bottom of the Save Drawing As dialog box.
3. Type File Name “TASK SHEET 2.3-2a”
4. Click Save.

Title: DRAW USING THE TEMPORARY TRACKING POINTS

Performance Objective: Given the materials, tools and equipment, you are
required to draw using the temporary tracking points
by following the given procedures and AutoCAD
commands within the time limit of 30 minutes.
Supplies/Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pen

Equipment:

1. Computer set/AutoCAD work station

Create a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose New ➢ Drawing

* You can open new or existing and save file by button in the Quick Access
toolbar.

Click Model Layout Tab

Draw a Rectangle
You can also start the RECTANGLE command by typing RECT 

1. Home tab ➢ Draw panel ➢ Rectangle tool.


2. Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]:
(pick a point)
3. Specify other corner point: (pick another point to draw the rectangle, the
size is not important)

Draw a Circle
You can also start the CIRCLE command by typing C 

1. Home tab ➢ Draw panel ➢ Circle tool.


2. Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: TT
o Move the cursor close to the midpoint of one of the vertical sides and
hover there for a second or so. The Midpoint osnap marker will
appear and a small cross, indicating that a tracking point has been
set.
o Move the cursor close to the midpoint of one of the horizontal sides
and hover. When a second marker and cross appears
o Move the cursor close to the circle center position. Where the two
tracking lines intersect, a third cross appears (see illustration). Pick
this point to specify the center of the circle.

3. Diameter/<Radius>: 10 and press 


Save a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Save As


2. Choose the version you want from the Files Of Type drop-down list at the
bottom of the Save Drawing As dialog box.
3. Type File Name “TASK SHEET 2.3-2b”
4. Click Save.

Title: PERFORM PAN AND ZOOM COMMAND IN AUTOCAD

Performance Objective: Given the materials, tools and equipment, you are
required to perform pan and zoom command in
AutoCAD by following the given procedures and
AutoCAD commands within the time limit of 30
minutes.
Supplies/Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pen

Equipment:

1. Computer set/AutoCAD work station

Open an existing AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Open ➢ Drawing


2. Click “Practice 1.dwg” file

* You can open new or existing and save file by button in the Quick Access
toolbar.

Click Model Layout Tab

Pan command using icon


You can also start the PAN Clicking mouse right Button + hold + drag

1. Go to View Tab Click Pan.


2. When the hand cursor appears, hold down the right button on your
pointing device as you move.
 Or right click the mouse and select Pan
 If you are using a wheel mouse, hold down the wheel button and move
the mouse.
3. Press ENTER, press ESC, or right-click to exit.

Zoom command by dragging


You can also start the ZOOM command by typing Z 

1. Click View tab Utilities panel Realtime.


2. When the hand cursor appears, hold down the button on your pointing
device and drag vertically to zoom in and out.
3. Press ENTER, press ESC, or right-click to exit.

Zoom into an area by specifying its boundaries


You can also start the ZOOM command by typing Z  W 

1. Click View tab Zoom Window. .


2. Specify one corner of the rectangular area you want to view.
3. Specify the opposite corner.
You automatically choose the Window option when you specify a point
immediately after starting the ZOOM command.

Zoom the drawing using zoom extents


You can also start the ZOOM command by typing Z  E 

1. Click View tab Zoom Extents.


2. All objects in the drawing are displayed as large as possible and still fit in
the current viewport or the drawing area.

Display the area of the grid limits by zooming


You can also start the ZOOM command by typing Z  A 
1. Click View tab Zoom All.
2. The limits of the drawing grid fill the current viewport or the drawing area.
If there are any objects outside the grid limits, they are also included.

Restore the previous view


You can also start the ZOOM command by typing Z  P 

1. Click View tab Zoom Previous.


2. Zoom Previous restores only the view magnification and position, not the
previous content of an edited drawing.

Title: CREATE DIMENSIONS

Performance Objective: Given the materials, tools and equipment, you are
required to create dimensions by following the given
AutoCAD commands within the time limit of
30minutes.
Supplies/Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pen

Equipment:

1. Computer set/AutoCAD work station

It is easy to create a linear dimension all you have to do is start the command.
Specify the two points between which you want the dimension to be drawn.
Pick a point to fix the position of the dimension line. Consider the diagram
(right) whilst working through the following examples.

Open an existing AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Open ➢ Drawing


2. Click “Practice 1.dwg” file

* You can open new or existing and save file by button in the Quick Access
toolbar.

Click Model Layout Tab


Linear Dimension
Command: DIMLINEAR

1. Click Home tab Annotation toolbar Linear.


2. First extension line origin or press ENTER to select: (pick P1)
3. Second extension line origin: (pick P2)
4. Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated)
Pick a point to position the dimension line (you will see the dimension
rubber banding).

Aligned Dimension
Command: DIMALIGNED

1. Click Home tab Annotation toolbar Linear.


2. Extension line origin or press ENTER to select:(pick P1)
3. Extension line origin: (pick P2)
4. Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle): (pick a point)
Angle Dimension
Command: DIMALIGNED

1. Click Home tab Annotation toolbar Angular.


2. Extension line origin or press ENTER to select:(pick P1)
3. Extension line origin: (pick P2)
4. Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle): (pick a point)

Diameter Dimension
Command: DIMDIAMETER

1. Click Home tab Annotation toolbar Diameter.


2. Select arc or circle: (pick the circumference P1)
3. Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle): (move the cursor until you are
happy with the text position and then pick to complete the sequence)

Radius Dimension
Command: DIMRADIUS

1. Click Home tab Annotation toolbar Radius.


2. Select arc or circle: (pick the circumference P1)
3. Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle): (move the cursor until you are
happy with the text position and then pick to complete the sequence)

Save a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Save As


2. Choose the version you want from the Files Of Type drop-down list at the
bottom of the Save Drawing As dialog box.
3. Type File Name “TASK SHEET 2.3-2d”
4. Click Save.

Title: LAYOUT AND PLOTTING/PRINTING DRAWINGS

Performance Objective: Given the materials, tools and equipment, you are
required to layout and plotting/printing drawings by
following the given AutoCAD commands within the
time limit of 30 minutes.
Supplies/Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pen

Equipment:

1. Computer set/AutoCAD work station

Open an existing AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Open ➢ Drawing


2. Click “Practice1.dwg” file

* You can open new or existing and save file by button in the Quick Access
toolbar.

Create a View Port

1. Click the Layout tab and then, in the Layout Viewports panel, click the
Rectangular button.
2. Specify corner of viewport: click the endpoint at the upper-right corner.
3. Specify Opposite Corner: click the endpoint at the lower-left corner

Viewport

* The drawing you must appear in view port.

Scale the Layout

1. Double-click anywhere inside the viewport boundary you just created, and
use the Zoom tool to compose your viewport.
2. Click the Viewport.
3. From the status bar select change the scale to 1:50
Plot/Print Drawing

1. Click the Plot button in the Quick access panel to open the Plot dialog box.

2. Set the set up the dialog box.


Change the following settings:

a. Plot style table – monochrome.ctb


b. Printer / plotter – Dwg To PDF.pc3
c. Paper size - A4
d. Plot area – Layout
e. Scale – 1:1 (1 inches)
f. Drawing Orientation –Landscape

4. Click “Apply Layout”


5. Click “Preview”
6. Click “OK”
Save a new AutoCAD file

1. Application menu, choose Save As


2. Choose the version you want from the Files Of Type drop-down list at the
bottom of the Save Drawing As dialog box.
3. Type File Name “TASK SHEET 2.3-3”
4. Click Save.
