Research and Product development and Innovation

Sustainability
Beyond helping curb those global challenges, sustainability can drive business success. Several investors today use Environmental, Social,
and Governance (ESG) metrics to analyze an organization’s ethical impact and sustainability practices. Investors look at factors such as a
company’s carbon footprint, water usage, community development efforts, and board diversity.

Quality control
Quality control (QC) is a process by which entities review the quality of all factors involved in production. ISO 9000 defines quality control as
"A part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements"

Troubleshooting
troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the management flow of a system caused by a failure of some kind. The
problem is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining and remedying the causes of
these symptoms.

Product rationalization
The process of reducing the number of products that you sell in order to invest more in the products that make the most profit:
The goal of product rationalization is to reach a maximum number of customers with a minimum number of products in order to maximize
revenue for each product.

 To match the values of RSL & MRSL from the party’s booklet.
• RSL:- Restricted Substance List
Application
The prohibitions and restrictions listed in this section apply to all Materials, Chemicals and Other Goods supplied for use in company labeled
and/or distributed products. Each Supplier and Source of Materials, Chemicals and Other Goods — to any company contractor when the
Materials, Chemicals and Other Goods will be used during the fabrication, manufacture, processing or distribution of a company labeled and/or
distributed product—represents and warrants that each of its Materials, Chemicals and Other Goods complies with all provisions of the RSL
(including, but not limited to, the RSL’s prohibitions, restrictions, other requirements and all applicable legal requirements) and that the Supplier
and Source will defend, indemnify and hold company harmless from any allegation, claim, liability, loss, damage, or other detriment, resulting
from any such Supplier’s non-compliance.
Purpose
Company is committed to upholding consumers’ health and safety by producing safe products. This section identifies the substances restricted in
this document because of potentially applicable legal requirements, the need to ensure consumer safety and/or company independent
judgment as a responsible business. . In addition, analytical test methods for use by the laboratory are given for each substance. Testing for
compliance with any edition of the RSL must be conducted by a laboratory approved in advance by company. Company may test Materials,
Chemicals and Other Goods for the RSL listed substances. company Suppliers and Sources have a non-delegable duty to comply with the
prohibitions, limitations, and other requirements of the RSL. The presence of a substance on the RSL or on any previous RSL should not be
interpreted as suggesting that the substance is, or ever was, present in any company labeled and/or distributed apparel, non-apparel, footwear,
accessories, packaging and other products or that the presence of a listed substance in at any particular level above the RSL constitutes an
unacceptable risk to human health or the environment.

• MRSL:- Manufacturing Restricted Substance List

There may be chemicals (for example machine cleaning chemicals), which have no direct contact with the
substrate, but which may cause worker exposure and environmental issues. In conjunction with the Zero
Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Group (ZDHC), Marks & Spencer has compiled a Manufacturing Restricted
Substances List (MRSL) of hazardous chemicals. The purpose of the MRSL is to restrict the input of hazardous
chemicals to the manufacturing process. The chemicals listed are banned from deliberate use in formulations.
In general, the MRSL reflects the requirements of the RSL, and therefore compliance with the MRSL will lead to
more certain compliance with the RSL.

min. – 0.001g
 Fifth machine :- CCMS
Functions of Computer Color Matching System:

• Color match prediction.

• Color difference calculation.
• Determine metamerism.
• Pass/Fail option.
• Color fastness rating.

PHYSICAL TESTING LAB
First procedure : Measuring GSM

Working Procedure of Measuring GSM of

a Fabric

• For Measuring GSM, fabric sample is cut by

GSM cutter. 11.2 cm
• Now weight is taken by electric balance.
• By this way we get the weight in gram per
one square meter fabric.
• Here GSM of the fabrics by the GSM cutter is obtained
by the multiplying the sample weight with 100.
• Second procedure :- Pilling
MARTINDALE ABRASION TESTER:

• Four specimens (38 mm diameter) are

mounted in the specimen holder.
• The sample is abraded against standard
abradant under standard load. 14 cm
• A complex motion (resultant of two s.h.m.
at right angle to one another) is given to the
specimen holder.
• Third procedure :- Abrasion resistance test
Procedure:
3.8 cm
i. At first cut the fabric into 4 pieces according to the measurement of
the instrument.
ii. Weigh these 4 pieces of fabric samples.
iii. Now place these samples in the instrument under a certain load as
supplied in the instrument.
iv. Now start the machine and observe the counter of abrasion no.
v. After an abrasion of 200 bring out the first sample and weigh it.
vi. After an abrasion of 300 bring out the second sample and weigh it.
vii. Similarly after abrasion of 400 and 500 bring out the third and
fourth sample and take their weight.
viii. Now put the weights before and after abrasions in a table and find
out their wear index.
• Fourth procedure :- Wicking test

Wicking Test (longitudinal):

• Strip of fabric is suspended vertically with

its lower edge in a reservoir of distilled water.
• The rate of rise of the leading edge of the water
is monitored.
• This gives direct indication of the wickability of test fabric.
17.5 cm

2.5 cm
• Fifth procedure :- Tear test
Measurement of fabric tearing strength:

• Tail ‘A’ is clamped in lower jaw and ‘B’ in upper jaw.

• Speed 50mm/min or 300mm/min.
• The separation of jaws causes the tear to proceed through
uncut part.
• Averages of the five highest peaks are taken as tear strength.
• Depending on the directing of testing, the tear strength of warp
or weft yarns are report

Laffer :- For pitching
To achieve the best sueding effect, it is
important to maximize the fabric-to-sueding
roll surface.

Lafer's main sueding design principle is the

circular path concept. It allows a wider
contact angle on the abrasive which leads to
a more effective sueding action.

Fabric is managed perfectly by means of

very high precision tension control and
ensured by the short fabric segmentation
inside the machine.
Sanforizer:- For shrinkage control
Manufactured by:- Monforst
Number of machine:- 2

Sanforization is a treatment process, mainly

applied to cotton fabrics and textiles made
from natural or chemical fibres, patented
by Sanford Lockwood Cluett (1874–1968) in
1930. It is a method of
stretching, shrinking and fixing the woven
cloth in both length and width before
cutting and producing, to reduce the
shrinkage which would otherwise occur
after washing.
