‘Question-8
‘SECTION-B
Using the ACI code, determine the minimum thickness required for
panels 1 and 3 of the flat plate floor shown in Figure 5. Edge beams
are not used along the exterior floor edges.
Given, f= 60000 psi and f = 3100 psi
‘Assume that the floor system of Q.5(a) is to support a service live
Toad of 80 psf and a service dead load of 100 psf in addition to its
‘own weight. Determine the required reinforcement in the column
strip and middle strips for column line B. Determine the spacing in
-the exterior span (from column line to 2)and-the interior span (from
columa line 2 to 3). Use the ACI direct design method and show the
reinforcement with neat sketch
‘What are the limitations of Direct Design Method for the analysis of
two way slab?
Figure 5 shows a flat plate floor designed to camry a factored load of |
390 pa. The total slab thickness h-9! in and the average effective
depth d-8 in, Material strengths are f/~60000 psi and-f. ~3100 psi.
Check for punching shear at column B2 and, if ACI code restrictions
are not met design appropriate shear reinforcement and show them
with neat sketches. Edge beams are not permitted,
Figure 6 shows the plan for a part of a floor with beams between all,
columns. For simplicity in forming, the beams have been made the
same width as the columns. The floor supports its own weight,
superimposed dead loads of 5 psf for ceiling and mechanical fixtures,
and 25 psf for partitions, plus a live load of 80 psf. The exterior wall
sweighs 300 Ib/ft and is supported by the edge beam. Lteral loads are
restricted by an elevator shaft not shown in the plan, Assume, slab
‘thickness = 7 in, and beam dimensions 1818 in. Find the moments
for the east-west strips of the exterior slab along column lines A and
B, using f, 4000 psi and f/=60000 psi
‘The short column shown in Figure 7 will be subjected to an eccentric
load causing uniaxial bending about the Y-axis. Material strengths are
£/-60000 psi and f =5000 psi. Create the nominal strength
interaction curve (in plain graph paper) for this column, calculating
no fewer than five points, including those corresponding to pure
bending, pure axial force, and balanced failure. Show on the same
drawing the design strength curve obtained through introduction of
the ACL® factors.
Design @ circular column with about 2.5% reinforcement to support
‘working unfactored loads. Ppu~1000 kip and Pi. 600 kp.
Given: f = 72500 psi and f ~ 4500 psi. Also design the spirals
required
A 1818 inch column is reinforced with twelve No. 8 bars arranged
‘around the column perimeter. Material strengths are: f2 4.0 ksi and
-60 ksi, Check adequacy of the short column using Reciprocal
‘Load Method for
Pim 450 kip, Ma= 80 kip-ft, May~ 120 kip-ft. Use supplied column
strength interaction diagram chart.
