Physical Security Plan

Exterior

 Why did you propose the lighting where you did?

I put lighting on exits because of easy access for people to exit the building during
emergencies and at the staff parking lot because this is where everyone will meet
for head count.

 What factors did you consider when increasing security of the parking design and
the differences between the visitor parking garage and the staff parking lot?

I fenced in staff parking lot and did not include the visitors because they will need
to be escorted into the facility which needs extra security when dealing with
visitors due to no background checks on visitors so high security precautions
must be in place.

 Why did you place cameras where you did?

I put the camera by the stairs and the staff entrance because you don’t have any
security guard there, which helps improve security and know who enters and exit
the building.

Lobby

 What kind of windows are required? What kind of access control security are you
providing for the visitor, employee, and patient?

1
Bulletproof windows are required for to keep patients and stuff safe. There is a
security guard station with well-trained guards at the entrance. Also, a lot of
cameras placed in the hallways for security.

 What kind of information would you collect from all nonemployees to enter the
hospital for security reasons?

Visitors need to sign the logbook, bring 2 forms of ID, carry a badge that says
visitor at all times in the facility.

 What kind of security would you have at the door (e.g., physical, ID badges,
cameras)?

I put the metal detector at the entrance, which has a security booth so they can
issue and collect all required information.

Maternity Unit

 From a security perspective, why is the placement of the nurses’ station

important?

Because that’s where all the nurses, physicians, and healthcare providers work
together and interact with patients coming in. This usually is a high traffic area.

 For security reasons, why do you encourage visitors to stay in designated areas or
tell them where to go (e.g., signs, maps, paths, etc.)?

I encourage visitors to stay in one area (Waiting room), because its easy to escort
them to a designated area for emergencies since they are not familiar with the
building. There are also maps available in the hallways and at each exit door on
each floor.

 How do you secure the newborns from potential abduction and accidental
switching?

Each baby has a wristband and ankle with barcode that triggers alarm, lock doors,
and freezes elevators if they come within 5 feet. This bands also trigger the alarm
when it is removed due to the security lock placed on them.

2
 Would different secondary ID badges for maternity ward employees be
recommended and why?

It is highly recommended to help minimize unauthorized staff.

Security Training

 What kind of security training would you offer to employee staff, and how often
would it take place? Why?

Infant abduction training monthly with a quarterly active scenario. Because when
you practice and give people hands-on experience, they can learn on what to
actual do because it comes second nature.

o Would the training be different for each group? How?

Everyone will be given the same training, but nursery nurses will be given
additional recovery procedures to make sure the tags are intact or to
replace and make sure the baby is safe and healthy.
