Critical review of “ covid-19 impact on students” by Andria Pragholapati.

 The article” covid- 19 impact on students” was posted by Andria Pragholapati, who worked at
department of nursing, faculty of sport education and health, universitas Pendidikan, Indonesia,
Bandung, Indonesia. Andria’s article shows the impact of Covid- 19 on student’s education, health
as well as some other negative effects on people who confront the pandemic everyday and who
have to suffer from being infected by it in Indonesia. While this article does not provide any
academic analysis of the situation, it does provide information with the purpose of raising public
awareness.

 According to Andra, Covid-19 has had people’s daily activities to be postponed from education to
business. For education, since students are included in the vunerable group, which is the group that
need to be protected from Covid, government in many countries has established policies for them
both social distancing as well as maintaining the school work by online learning. On student, Covid
increases their anxiety . Since everythings around them are delayed, and their family or relative
have to live in quarantine, or they live with infected patient, their health is greatly affected and
their worries keep on rising. This need the attention of the family and the whole community.
Besides,mental health is also one problem. Student have to face depression during the pandemic. A
majority of them fall into the category of not wanting to go outside and limit their interaction with
society in order to avoid being infected. However, the level of depression is different between
different sexes. Aside from students, people also suffer a great depression and anxiety that relates to
the emotion that lead to psychological disorder. Nurses and nursing students are the major victims
of this problem.  Studies show that although both nursing students and nurses get stressed, nurses
are highly unlikely to suffer more than nursing students because they have tendency to use coping
that focus on the problems. This need the contribution of hospital to improve the situation that
nurses are facing. Lastly, Covid also affects the information that people absorb in everyday. Most of
mainstream channel and social media report the statistics and fatality rate of infected victims, and
this lead to the negative emotion of the audience.

 As a writer who focus on Covid-19 impact, Andria’s aim is to show the current situation that is
presenting before people in the middle of the pandemic with the writing style that easily
accessible to many readers. By using statistics about the victims at global level then narrow it
down to his country, language which easy to understand, he has achieved his goal. While the
article is not intended for an expert audience, it also shows his understanding as well as his
analysis about the topic. His article is written by chronological order which helps people easy to
follow the development of the Pandemic as he states the impacts of it.

Since this article’s targeted audiences are ordinary people, the matter in the topic are
demonstrated by the common text instead of the academic style. However, he just uses the line
graph and the statistics at the beginning of the the article. This may raise the doubt of the reader
because if he just use some numbers at first then completely abandon it in the rest of the article.
Furthermore, the article is extremely long in some problems, and it makes the audiences find it very
hard to get the proper idea he wants to say.
Some keypoints are not mentioned in the article. While he wants to explain the method that is used
for students to study, he does not state the hardship that students have to deal with. In” impact on
students”, despite the information he provides, may not draw a clear picture of how negative it
affects on students.

In sum, this article is to serve cocial purpose, so it may not contains many term or explanation in
academic style, or some information may be invalid. However, it still gives the reader a useful
information on how serious the problem that Covid-19 has created eversince it was discovered.
