INTRODUCTION

During the first wave of the pandemic, wherein cases and deaths are increasing, the only intervention the government
saw to help each individual to stay healthy and to break the chain of transmission is to implement lockdowns and social
distancing. In this way the government is giving the at-risk population a fighting chance to survive this pandemic. But on
the other side, the pandemic restrictions required a lot of adjustments and transitions.

The same had happened in the Philippines. As COVID swept the world in 2020, the Philippines became the most affected
country in Southeast Asia. Metro Manila and other provinces were put under the enhanced community quarantine.

The response of the Philippines to the on-going increase of COVID-19 cases has been described as one of the longest and
strictest lockdowns in the world.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Statement of the problem, the study "Life during the pandemic: The struggles of the students in the new normal" aims
to answer these following questions

First, we researchers need to know what is the demographic profile of the students in terms of age, gender and grade
level
what are the struggles encountered by the students in the new normal set-up in education?
what are the thoughts and opinions of the students on distance learning?
How does the pandemic change the lives of students?
What are the coping mechanism students had for them to cope with the struggles they are facing?
and lastly how important managing mental health is?

Now may I call on Aaron Christian A. Dayr.it for the hypothesis

REVIEW AND RELATED LITERATURE STUDIES

According to the American Psychological Association in 2020 that the persistent stress and trauma caused by the
pandemic has a serious impact on the youngest individuals, known as Generation Z. In their survey, it shows that Gen Z
teens and adults are facing unprecedented uncertainty. The APA also states that to prevent a much more serious mental
health crisis, raising awareness and proposing strategies would be a big help to recover from this crisis.

Gen Z teens have been experiencing more intense stress due to COVID-19 associated with schooling. Because of what is
happening, students are having a hard time focusing and already losing motivation to do school works.

Given these disruptions, it's no surprise that the level of stress in their life has increased over the past year. Together
with the teens, college students are also grappling with the changes in education. In college report, their education is a
significant source of stress.
