I. Introductory Page
A. Name and address of the company
B. Name of the entrepreneur(s), contact number, email address, and Web site address if
available.
C. Paragraph describing the company and the nature of the business.
D. Amount of financing needed. The entrepreneur may offer a package (e.g., stock or debt).
However, many venture capitalists prefer to structure this package in their own way.
E. A statement of the confidentiality of the report. This is for security purposes and is
important for the entrepreneur.

II. Executive Summary

This is the most critical part of your business planning. If you never flesh out a full business plan, make
sure you create a fantastic executive summary. This brings together all of the key elements of your plan
and will often be the make-or-break document which decides whether commercial lenders or investors will
have any interest in seeing the rest of your documentation or pursuing a relationship with you.

This is a brief that precedes a business plan when seeking new partners, business loans or an early
round of funding for a startup venture. It sums up the business plan and opportunity in a tight document.

This is your key to getting more capital. Only an effective one will unlock that door, or get commercial
lenders or investors to give you any more attention.

The goal should be to get the reader to say “This is interesting. It has potential. These people know what
they are doing, and I want to get in on the action. At least if everything they’ve told me is accurate.”

It should be no more than 1-3 pages long, and should be written in the third person.

It should be:

 5-10% in length of the full business plan

 Short, concise paragraphs

 Be written in the same order as the full plan
