B. PREFACE

Quality and excellence in learning are of paramount importance in education. One of the aims of
the K to 12 basic education program is to develop in learners the skills, work ethic and values
relevant to further education and/or entry into the world of work. In order to achieve greater
consistency between basic education and the country's development goals, work immersion, a
compulsory subject, was included in the curriculum. This subject provides learners with
opportunities to familiarize themselves with the workplace; for employment simulation; and
apply their skills in specializations/application-oriented subjects in authentic work environments.
Through work immersion, students are confronted with and familiarized with the working
environment of their specialty in order to expand their competence. In particular, students are
able to improve their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their communication and
interpersonal skills, and develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work
and colleagues.
C. PRESENTATION OF SELECTED WORK

Air Canada is the flag carrier and the largest airline in Canada by fleet size and passengers
carried. Air Canada is headquartered in the Saint-Laurent neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec.
Founded in 1937, the airline offers scheduled and charter passenger and cargo flights to 222
destinations worldwide. It is a founding member of Star Alliance. Air Canada's main hubs are
located at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), Toronto Pearson International Airport
(YYZ), Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The
airline's regional service is Air Canada Express
Canada's national airline grew out of Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA), formed by the Canadian
federal government in 1936, which began operating its first transcontinental routes in 1938. In
1965, following government approval, TCA was renamed Air Canada. The airline was privatized
in 1988 following the deregulation of Canada's aviation market in the 1980s. On January 4,
2000, Air Canada acquired its main competitor, Canadian Airlines. In 2003 the airline filed for
bankruptcy protection and the following year arose under the holding company ACE Aviation
Holdings Inc. and was reorganized. In 2017, Air Canada flew 48 million passengers as the airline
celebrated its 80th anniversary.[9] In October 2021, the Canadian government acquired 6.4% of
Air Canada and did not rule out further investments. Air Canada has a fleet of Airbus A330,
Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft on long-haul routes and uses Airbus
A320 Family aircraft (including the A320 and A321 variants), Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus
A220-300 aircraft on short-haul routes. The airline's operational divisions include Air Canada
Cargo, Air Canada Express, Air Canada Jetz (private jet charter) and Air Canada Rouge (leisure
airline). Subsidiary Air Canada Vacations offers vacation packages to over 90 destinations.
Together with its regional partners, the airline operates an average of more than 1,613 scheduled
flights per day.
CANADA AIRLINES
 DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT
Air Canada is Canada's largest domestic and international airline, serving more than 210 airports
on six continents. Canada's flagship is among the 20 largest airlines in the world, serving more
than 50 million customers each.
 REFLECTION/INSIGHT OF THE SUBJECT
does Air Canada make a lot of money? People might believe that as they see Air Canada and
Westjet as the oligopolists in Canada's commercial airline industry. However, the picture is very
different - Air Canada reported losses in the first and second quarters of 2012 and a profit margin
of just 0.8% (ie 0.008 times revenue) in the fourth quarter of 2012. It begs the question where
Air Canada's losses are coming from if they dominate the Canadian airline market.
