ENGAGE
The first activity is entitled, “FIND YOUR PAIR AND CHOOSE A DARE!”
- Each student was given a broken piece of picture and all they have to do is to fix this picture by looking for
their other half. After that, the two of them will choose a number which contains a dare for them to do.
- After the activity, the teacher will ask the students about a word that best reflects the activity.
- The teacher will show the word Persuasion and give its definition.

- The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. Have you ever tried persuading someone?
2. How did you convince them? What are your techniques or strategies?

Sometimes, when you believed in something, you want others to believe in it also right?
In order for us to do that, we need to know the different techniques in persuasion or in convincing others.

EXPLORE
The class will identify the different techniques of persuasion through the next activity entitled “CONTINUE
MY STORY”.
- The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups.
- Each group will be given lines to read.
- Choose two readers to read aloud the lines of the 2 characters.
- The teacher will read first the situation of the story and the chosen representatives of Group 1 will continue
the story then followed by Group 2, and 3.
- After the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What did you understand about the passage?
2. Have you tried asking your parents about something before?
3. How did you convince them?

(THE TEACHER WILL EMPLOY REPITITION OF IMPORTANT DETAILS IN THIS ACTIVITY)

EXPLAIN
According to Aristotle, a Greek Philosopher, we have three techniques to persuade:
1. Ethos – an appeal to credibility or character. It is a guiding belief of a person, group, or organization.
- The teacher will cite example from the story read by the students.
- The teacher will give another example.
2. Logos – an appeal to logic or reason. It is an ability to reason out or ability to provide a proof or evidence. This
includes citation of statistics, facts, charts or graphs.
- The teacher will cite example from the story read by the students.
- The teacher will give another example.
3. Pathos – an appeal to emotion. It is the quality that targets the emotional needs of a person. Also called
manipulative technique.
- The teacher will cite example from the story read by the students.
- The teacher will give another example.
After explaining the different techniques, the teacher will ask the students about the three techniques of persuasion.

ELABORATE
- The teacher will check if the students really understand those techniques through the next activity entitled,
“RAISE YOUR ANSWERS!”
- The teacher will flash something on the screen, and each group should identify what technique does it used.
- They’ll just raise their answers when the teacher says RAISE YOUR ANSWERS!

After the activity, the students will now apply what they have learned through the next activity entitled,
“CONVINCE ME!”
- The three groups will be given a task to do.
- The group will choose one representative to pick their task card and read what is written.
- The group may use any of the techniques of persuasion.
- Each group will only be given 3 minutes to prepare.
- After 3 minutes, the three groups will present.

SITUATION 1
We are all aware that election will be happening months from now. You have seen and heard
different campaign platforms and other things related to such. If you were to run as President of the
Philippines, how will you encourage or persuade the people to vote for you.
- Choose 1 representative to act as Presidential candidate and others will be the people of the
Philippines who will throw questions to be answered by the candidate.

SITUATION 2
If you were given a chance to be telecast and promote Cabaruan Integrated School to other
people, how will you do it using persuasive techniques?
- Choose 1 representative to do the promotion and others may do their part to make the promotion
effective and attractive.

SITUATION 3
If you were to court a lady, how will you persuade her to say “YES” and prove your good
intentions using persuasive techniques? Make a short roleplay showing this scenario.

After the presentation, the teacher will ask the following:

1. Among the three activities, which do you enjoyed most?
2. For you, what persuasive strategy is most effective from those presentations? Why?
3. Why do we need to know those persuasive strategies?

EVALUATE
- The students will have a pen and paper activity.
-In one half sheet of paper, convince me that your group performed the best performance today. You
may use any of the three persuasive strategies.
(individual activity)

EXTEND
Download a TV commercial and analyze what persuasive strategy does it used. Present it in class.
