When I was a Junior in High School, I began shadowing at a Medicaid dental clinic in
Longview, Texas. We often saw a lot of lower-income patients who may not have been as
educated about the importance of oral health maintenance; as a result, these patients often
presented with more significant medical concerns. This was just one aspect of dentistry that drew
me to the profession. Others include the individuality, hands-on experience, and private-sector
business that it is. However, learning about these other parts of dentistry proved to be a challenge
for me.
Many years later, I have gained substantially more experience in the field through events like
dentistry. These experiences taught me how the oral cavity is an avenue that dentists use to treat
the entire body, something that I have often seen you emphasize in your students. Many people,
including aspiring dental students like myself, struggle to make this realization. This could be
came to speak at our Pre-Dental Students Association club, you would be integral to providing
much-needed insight into aspects of dentistry that many students have not considered before.
Upperclassmen have spoken about your knowledge of the industry as well as your passion to
