Dear Dr. Smith,

When I was a Junior in High School, I began shadowing at a Medicaid dental clinic in

Longview, Texas. We often saw a lot of lower-income patients who may not have been as

educated about the importance of oral health maintenance; as a result, these patients often

presented with more significant medical concerns. This was just one aspect of dentistry that drew

me to the profession. Others include the individuality, hands-on experience, and private-sector

business that it is. However, learning about these other parts of dentistry proved to be a challenge

for me.

Many years later, I have gained substantially more experience in the field through events like

Rutgers’ Gateway to Dentistry Program, where I was exposed to pre-clinical techniques of

dentistry. These experiences taught me how the oral cavity is an avenue that dentists use to treat

the entire body, something that I have often seen you emphasize in your students. Many people,

including aspiring dental students like myself, struggle to make this realization. This could be

due to lack of experience or exposure to dental professionals such as yourself.

The lack of knowledge about dentistry is why I’m writing to you today. I’m confident that if you

came to speak at our Pre-Dental Students Association club, you would be integral to providing

much-needed insight into aspects of dentistry that many students have not considered before.

Upperclassmen have spoken about your knowledge of the industry as well as your passion to

educate the next generation of dentists. I believe you would be readily accepted by our

organization as our students would be grateful to learn from a dental professional who has

become familiar with the inner workings after decades of practice.

We would be honored to have you speak to the next generation of aspiring dentists. Thank you

for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely,

Kavin Patel
